1joeranger Posted February 16, 2010 #1 Posted February 16, 2010 Love to listen to Books on Tape (cd) when traveling so I am looking for a CD player to mount to my RSTD. Looking for input here. I know most have switched to mp3's so maybe someone has one collecting dust they would like to part with? Also looking for idea's on how to mount it to the RSTD? I have an amplifier and speakers for my ipod so I could use some advice on how to put all that together? I'm envisioning switching between the two, when the mode strikes but audio is not my forte!
Cougar Posted February 16, 2010 #2 Posted February 16, 2010 You do know that you can now download books from you local library from your home onto your MP3 Player right .? I myself think it is a lot easier then playing around with cd's and such. Just my 2 cents Jeff
1joeranger Posted February 16, 2010 Author #3 Posted February 16, 2010 Actually no, I did not! LOL and that is where I go to get BOT. I'll find out today if my local library does that! Thanks!!
dunvilsteev Posted February 16, 2010 #4 Posted February 16, 2010 I have a Zune (Microsoft mp3 player) and I HAVE used it for books. These were downloads from the web and the local libraries site. However, although it makes the files nice and compressed, using the least amount of storage, it does tend to store it in one big file. So, if you don't listen to the whole thing you have to either look at how far you are through the file and remember that (ie: 1 hour, 13 minutes, 42 seconds) point, or else fast forward, listening to a bit at a time , until you find you place. Real audio books, on the other hand, are usually divided into chapters so you can get back to where you were easily. Also, just adding my
1joeranger Posted February 16, 2010 Author #5 Posted February 16, 2010 Good stuff, thanks!! I had tried downloading a BOT onto my Ipod once with similar results. I think I will continue to pursue the CD player angle. I will also ask the younger generation, my daughter, on downloading BOT. Maybe there is a way without winding up with one big compressed file!
Bvinson Posted February 16, 2010 #6 Posted February 16, 2010 Ipod is the way to go. Buy them from Amazon or many other sources.
Cougar Posted February 16, 2010 #7 Posted February 16, 2010 Your library will most likely have you down-load them from this site. http://wilbor.lib.overdrive.com/261BBE8B-0CC9-4748-8C80-AAEBCDA9423E/10/425/en/Default.htm Check it out and see if yours is on there. all you need is a library card # I think you can check out 3 a week. Good luck! Jeff
LilBeaver Posted February 16, 2010 #8 Posted February 16, 2010 If you have trouble downloading them directly from the library, your other option would be to rip the CD onto your computer, then put it on the MP3 player. To keep it legal, just delete the file before you return the 'book' to the library. But, like others have said, there is likely a way to do it. I have done it a few times and it worked just fine. I travel a lot for work so I pass a lot of time in airports and on planes when I am just too tired to work, just put on the 'ol headphones and crank 'er up.
1joeranger Posted February 17, 2010 Author #9 Posted February 17, 2010 Thanks all! I believe I will go back to the Ipod approach! I found this article to help maintain your place on the Ipod: http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/the-complete-guide-to-ipod-audiobooks/ Looking forward to trying this!!
SapperMedic Posted February 17, 2010 #10 Posted February 17, 2010 OK, My wife has all her books on her Ipod, she says there are a few secrets to do it. 1. In I-Tunes, Highlight the entire book, after you load all the CD's on your computer. 2. Right Click on get info. 3. Make sure Artist Name is the same, and the Same Name. On The Album, put the name of the book. (no disc #'s) 4. Click on Options, Look at Media Kind and change to Audio Book. click yes on compilation and remember position. Then click OK 5. After syncing your Ipod, go to music and instead of selecting audiobooks, go one more down to search and find the name of the book. 6. Select the Book, make sure your not shuffling and it goes right through each chapter 7. It picks up where you left off, or you can go by chapters. Good Luck, It is quite a trial for me, but the rear navigator has it down to a science.
1joeranger Posted February 17, 2010 Author #11 Posted February 17, 2010 Being an Aggie everything is a trial for me! Converse still have that speed trap?
SapperMedic Posted February 17, 2010 #12 Posted February 17, 2010 Yes, it is still up and running, but not near as bads as the one in Windcrest. My neighbor got 2 speeding tickets in one day. 1 for 27 in a 25 and the the other for 29 in 25. I stay at 20 MPH when going to church.
SapperMedic Posted February 17, 2010 #13 Posted February 17, 2010 I am using Audible.com to load a book or 2 on the SD card for my Zumo for our trips also. it works great
1joeranger Posted February 17, 2010 Author #14 Posted February 17, 2010 I don't remember the road that connects College Station to Houston. I do remember that along there near, or in, Converse only the foolish speed! I had looked at Zumo's and thought that had MP3 capabilities. I plan on getting one when I get rich!!
