Well Taters only has 7 more to go to catch up with my spouse!:crying:

been there, done that....we raised beagles for field trials, when we would have a litter of pups Taters would tell customers they were always sold and didn't have any more left.. she would always end up with a pup or two....after having seven dogs in my house , having only one is like having none at all....:fnd_(16):

Field trails or gun dog trails ? Dad still runs field trail dogs. Only females now--sells his males. I think he has one pup (8 weeks old) still left.

Gun dog trials, small pack (6 to 12 dogs max)...was president of the PIONEER BEAGLE CLUB in LE ROY , NY for a few years...all of a sudden the judges wanted these wild uncontrollable a$$ rippers that ran off scent and cheated on each other and did a lot of me tooing.....now I dont want no walkie talkie but a nice smooth gun dog thats able to circle a rabbit at a good speed...breeders here bowed to the judges and started adding a lot of hare breeding into their bloodline...I refused to do so....politics played a big role into what was being breed up here ...a lot of our judges came from up north in hare country....I'm in cottontail country, and refuse to dilute my breeding program...had a lot of old yellow creek stock in my bloodlines....end of long story..........:amen::fnd_(16):

The field trail clubs are closing or being taken over by gun dogs. When I was a kid, I remember Dad and I running our hunting dogs in the trails and doing very well. Dads 85 now and all the old timers are wondering why the young aren't more involved with the trails. Just look at the boreing walkie talkies and the gun dogs that run so fast that they overrun the check by 20 yards or more before they realize the rabbit made a turn, and they are not smart enough to turn around and go back to find the scent.

By the way, Dad runs field trail because he figured the walkie talkies were doing their own work more than likely and he didn't like the a**ripers.

I think he would still prefer the old way's also, but how do you change it back. I don't think they run packs around here much anymore, more like a couple of dogs down and the judges watch them run. You move up or get dropped, then run again. Both in field trails and gun dog trails. Haven't been around it much and only go once in a while to watch dad. keeps him active though.

I totally agree with what you said.....the bad thing is that if you want to finish a hound , your at the mercy of what some judges want the direction of the breed to go..up here, the only dogs that were finished as champions were puppys bought from the judges... sad but very true...if you wanted to finish a dog, you bought a pup from a judge and followed the judge around the state until you had enough wins or points to make it a champion.....this made the judges pups more valuable than anyone elses...had to get out.....couldn't stand the politics anymore...saw some bad dogs with major faults finished as champions... very sad indeed..

Nice job on the dog house! These two knuckleheads have a nice dog house as well but they don't use it.

... that new Bassett Hound, ... and your challenges in Ztraining period.

Had one and loved him dearly, and he returned the same: Fond memories always of old Murphy!

Holy smokes Bob. Those dogs are huge. And aren't they like a year old now?

We are expecting also in about 4 weeks. Purebred female yellow lab. If I had a micro sd adapter I would post some pics of her.

Getting her from my niece's dogs litter in between my and my daughter's b-day.

Last year dad had a 1st place taken from him because of the judges.

Two clubs combined into one to survive, No one there could believe that he didn't get the win. It was a no brainer---Everyone told the judges off and told them that neither would judge their trails again and that they were going to spread the word.

The clubs told dad they were sorry and said he should have complained to the judges, but he said that he had to keep his mouth shut because they might be judgeing another trail he was in sometime. That first place he lost would have been the dogs third. He finished the dog at the next trail.

Enjoy the new pup
