painterman67 Posted February 16, 2010 #26 Posted February 16, 2010 I have to laugh every time I hear a 1st genner say the 1st gens are faster than a second gen. I really don't care to have the fastest , if I did, I would have bought a Hyabusa. I do enjoy going to the M&E's and not HAVE to drag out the tools to make repairs on some worn out part of my bike! I really admire our "Chrome Callenged" members and their 1st generation Ventures, it takes alot of courage and mechanical experience to try and keep those old dinosaurs on the road. On the serious side, I think old man winter is really working hard on all of us. I want to get out for a nice loooong ride, instead, I sit here and try to stir the proverbial pot. I hope ya'll don't think I'm being too mean spirited. I always love a good lighthearted debate. Dave I think the last M&E i went to we had to push that 2nd gen of yours just to get her to start. No tools needed but even my wifes shadow started without a shove from a 1st genner.:witch_brew: David
N3FOL Posted February 17, 2010 #27 Posted February 17, 2010 I really don't care anymore at this point whether you have a 1st of 2nd gen bike. All I want is to get out and ride, but with snow still on the ground and schools continue to open 2 hours late and daytime temperatures just hovering around 35°F...I may not be able to ride until late March...if I'm lucky. Anyway...I think my 2nd Gens just can't stand to stay in the garage for so long.
YamaDuck Posted February 17, 2010 #28 Posted February 17, 2010 It's easy to get parts to repair a 2d Gen. All you need to do is follow a Harley and pick up the pieces that fall off cuz they will fit your knock off..... Hey keep it up guys I'm loving this. I love hearing you guys bash each others ride because I know how much you love what you ride and ride what you love. And if this was not such a great forum of so many great friends (even though most of you have never even met) someone might get their feelings hurt. But I must confess I'm trying to understand this comment. - Road Star yes I can see someone call a HD knockoff (I have one), - Vstar yes I can see someone calling it a knockoff (even the 950 and 1300 to a limit) - But a Royal Star Venture??? lets compare as see what we get, 1) 98 hp way more than a HD, 2) 4 cylinder (Twice as many as a HD) 3) Radio and CB on the handlebar??? HD in the dash where it should be) 4) Show me a speedo on any HD like the Venture 5) Huge front tire compared to a HD, 6) High revving engine 7) smooth and quite to HD shaking and loud V twin 8) Shaft drive unlike a HD 9) 5 speed tranny compared to HD 6 speed 10) Water cooled compared to HD air cooled. 11) Two colors a year compared to HD many color choices 12) etc... etc... etc... I could go on all night About the only thing I see in common is they both have two wheels and handlebars. Anyway keep the bashing going!
Guest Swifty Posted February 17, 2010 #29 Posted February 17, 2010 The First Gen. VR seats the rider Erect to slightly leaning forward and the Second Gen. RSV seats the rider with feet forward, sorta' slouching and leaning away from the handlebars. HUH? I really admire our members and their 1st generation Ventures, it takes alot of courage and mechanical experience to try and keep those old dinosaurs on the road. ...finally, someone gives me the R-E-S-P-E-C-T that I've been looking for these last few years. I really don't care anymore at this point whether you have a 1st of 2nd gen bike. ...only a 2nd gen owner would say that...they are very apathetic...just like their bikes, I guess. It's really simple to tell a 1st gen from a 2nd gen. YUP, one is the leader of the pack and the other is just a part of the flock. Now check out the relaxed seating postion on this leader of the pack....
BradT Posted February 17, 2010 #30 Posted February 17, 2010 Now check out the relaxed seating postion on this leader of the pack.... So was it a First Gen rider that took the picture ? Seems to me he may have been a ahead of you Oh Yah You never could park in the pack like everyone else. Brad

I'll fess up and admit, I left the switch on and let the battery die. And yes, I had to get a push to get the damn thing to start. I'll lay off the first gen bashing, now that I have been put in my place! Dave
