Ky. Rider Posted February 15, 2010 #1 Posted February 15, 2010 Something unique recently happened to me that I thought I would share with my fellow Venture riders. On the Sunday Jan. 31, 2010 edition of The Oregonian newspaper out of Portland there is a picture of some GI's from Viet Nam in 1972. I am the soldier in the middle on the pole taking the flag down. Kinda strange that picture would appear 38 years later in a west coast newspaper and an old boy from Ky. is in it. There is a connection since the GI to my right has a brother that now works for the paper and was also in Viet Nam. But still, what are the odds??? Just wanted to share. Bill

Ky. Rider Posted February 15, 2010 Author #4 Posted February 15, 2010 So where is the picture.................. Well, the fact is, I have it on e-mail but I don't have a clue how to get it on this site as I am not very savy in this stuff. Someone tell me how and I'll give it a whirl. Otherwise, you'll just have to take my word for it or it might be viewed by looking up the Oregonian, I just don't know. By the way, they did send me a copy of the paper after I requested one and told them who I was.
Monty Posted February 15, 2010 #5 Posted February 15, 2010 Is this it? http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/viet.jpg Not easy to get. First, I had to find it(their website is not very user friendly), Then, it wouldn't let me copy it, so I printed it, scanned it back in, uploaded it to Photobucket, and...VOILA!!! (hope it's the right one, lol)

(hope it's the right one, lol) Thanks Monty. Yes that is it! I am the guy in the middle on the pole. That picture was made on an artillery firebase as we were getting ready to leave Nam. The other pictures are from the same event. I am also in the one with the artillery piece standing on the bunker. Once again, what are the odds 38 years later of that picture appearing on a newspaper in Oregon? Thanks again. Bill
Monty Posted February 16, 2010 #8 Posted February 16, 2010 Yes it is, and the world seems to get smaller every day, especially since the internet. Glad I could help you show it here. Thanks for serving.
rumboogy Posted February 16, 2010 #9 Posted February 16, 2010 As a photographer, veteran and US Citizen, I appreciate the photo and your service!!! I would be proud of something like this and you should find a way to put it on the wall. Wally

rumboogy Posted February 16, 2010 #13 Posted February 16, 2010 Yeah...I think it would be a great avatar too.... Monty...I used Photoshop and just layered some color on the flag...too bad the original photo is not available, otherwise this would make a wonderful and inspirational poster on the wall. Wally
