Herb In Texas Posted February 10, 2010 #1 Posted February 10, 2010 (edited) A week or so ago I was cruising along FM 4 herre in Texas going up hill into the wind with my trailer on. I was running about 70 and thought, faster. So I grabbed a hand full of throttle and the Venture sounded like and old Chevy 283 with a two speed Hydromatic that had down shifted. Instant thought dam clutch slipping. Well it turns out that was the case. took it to Yamaha west in Ft Worth. Where I bought it. They tore it down measured everything. Gave me the bad news clutch discs worn out. I asked what it was going to cost to fix it, TalKd about the options of upgrades and all like I've read about here. Well Aaron said lets hold off and see if I can get it covered under warrenty. I said well ok but its a wear item they probably wom,t cover it. He said that yamaha really likes to take care of Venture owners, lets try. Well he called yesterday and lo and behold, COVERED!!!!! I can't say for sure if it is a dealership thing or a Yamaha thing, but I can say that these guys have really taken care of any and all concerns I have ever had with the bike. And if you remember last summer when a fellow Venture riders shock laid down on him here in Texas and he was ffrom Utah. Guess who had the shock Yamaha west. Goose picked it up and went to Blanco with Tom and got him going. Kudos to all involved. Well I just want to say if your in north texas and need Yamaha service or parts you will do your self a favor by giving these guys a shot at your business they have sure earned mine!!! :bighug:Btw 2008 Venture with 60,000 yes 60,000 miles and, COVERED!!!! Squidley Posted February 10, 2010 #3 Posted February 10, 2010 Herb, Make sure that they replace the spring plate in there, thats what is causing the slipping. I find it extremely hard to believe that the discs were worn down. Not saying it isn't so, but I have done at least 8 clutch upgrades and the friction discs on every bike were the stock thickness. Another mention here too is that they clean the steels in between the frictions discs good as when they got heated up it put a glaze on them. This is of course if they dont put new steels in as part of the warranty job. Glad they are taking care of you, but know what they are going to do

I will do a search in a minute. and have them put it in when they get all the stuff together. I did ask about the spring and it was not a part of the covered repairs. Thanks Herb Herb,I doubt they will put it in as I believe the best way to do it is by the removal of the very most inner half disc and discarding it and replacing with another full disc. IF they dont want to do this Ill bet ya I can get the "Master Tech" to come up with me and we can do it in about 15 minutes or so. Thanks guys for everthing. I bet they will go ahead and put the parts in, like I said these guys are pretty awesome. I would do it myself were it not for a thousand other irons in the fire. Seems like here latley all I get done is haul wood to the hottest fire. Should slow down in time for prime riding weather though. I need the Venture to go to San Deigo in April to see my boy graduate from MCRD. Dawn wants to fly but I want to ride. Any bets on who will win? Thanks again. Herb

Glad that the boys at your dealer are hooking you up, we did Toms (He did the surgery, I watched him) and he was very happy with the results. Monty Posted February 11, 2010 #16 Posted February 11, 2010 If your clutch slips, then when you shift, the bike will rev higher until it finally goes in. It will usually take it a few seconds to start pulling like it should. That's it in a nutshell anyway.

The PCW kit is the cheapest fix and works without hurting anything. Brad

Squidley sold it to me with Lonna's permission and must have worked on the clutch before I climbed on at 48,000! Regardless, thanks Squid and L. for a great bike. You are GREAT folks. NOW come to CO with your tools! LOL. OF course, I never push the bike hard in shifts unless I have too; at soon to be 71 I just ride easy and for max safety. JackZ Ft Collins,.
