words77 Posted October 5, 2007 #1 Posted October 5, 2007 I'm in the process of fabricating a detachable trunk rack for the Royal Star Tour Deluxes, 2005 up. This system will mount on the existing RSTD side rails which accomodate the existing detachable sissy bar system. It will consist of a flat rack, approximately 8x10, horizontal bars, no uprights above the rack. This will enable one to switch between using the stock detach system with a rack that attaches to the uprights on the sissy bar, allowing a soft luggage system, or switching to the trunk rack system, which would accomodate virtually any aftermarket trunks. This would allow for full detachability of both units. In addition, I am considering construction of multiple units, if the demand exists. I know I am simply fed up with having a detachable system that does not meet my specific needs. Feedback from fellow forum members is solicited. To be specific, If I build it, is their enough demand out there to make more than one. Any thoughts???
Bubbajbi Posted October 5, 2007 #2 Posted October 5, 2007 I would love to see what you come up with. I am looking at putting a Tour Deluxe removable backrest on my RSV and would also like to have a system for removing the trunk quickly.

Pecker Posted October 5, 2007 #4 Posted October 5, 2007 I am very interested to see what you can do. I have been racking my brain trying to figure this out. Allways hoped Yamaha would step up to the plate and design something, probably cost a kings ransom though. If it looks good, I would definately be interested in procurring one from you. GOOD LUCK:fingers-crossed-emo
Lone Eagle Posted October 5, 2007 #5 Posted October 5, 2007 The mfg should have come out with one - long ago. I ended up buying the Venture Rack etc to get my trunk to mount. to whatever your design might be.
PERM44 Posted March 3, 2008 #6 Posted March 3, 2008 Will the rack you are designing work on either the RSTD or the RSV? I need a luggage rack for my RSV since I removed the trunk. I would want it to be easily removed as I would only use it when on long trips.
starcruiser Posted March 4, 2008 #7 Posted March 4, 2008 I too would like to see what you come up with. Other factors would also figure in such as availability of trunks at reasonable prices, etc. Good luck with the project!
chachi Posted March 10, 2008 #8 Posted March 10, 2008 I would definetly be interested. Would you happen to have any pics of the trunk? chachi
stardbog Posted March 10, 2008 #9 Posted March 10, 2008 I Would be interesting for Stratoliner Detachable trunk.
MrStankie Posted March 10, 2008 #10 Posted March 10, 2008 I'm interested in something that will make my venture trunk easily detachable.
kantornado Posted March 10, 2008 #11 Posted March 10, 2008 Should of been a 5th spot in the pole. 1 that say's I don't have a RSTD but would like to see the pole.........Ron
RSTDRIDER Posted March 10, 2008 #12 Posted March 10, 2008 I would like to see what you come up with. To have the option to go from solo seat to passanger seat with sissy bar to a TRUNK, It just couldn't get any better!!
Grey Fox Posted March 12, 2008 #13 Posted March 12, 2008 I would be interested in one. I agree with another post, it would be nice to have a detachable truck, sissy bar or go solo.
naturbar Posted March 16, 2009 #14 Posted March 16, 2009 count me in on being interested - like many others i have driven myself nearly insane trying to come up with something that is affordable. Starcruiser check out this affordable trunk : http://www.a1saddlebags.com/dmymotolutrh.html
nhfree Posted March 16, 2009 #16 Posted March 16, 2009 Yes I would be interested in a detachable trunk for the RSTD. Let me know what you come up with.
Mikealiasmike Posted March 17, 2009 #18 Posted March 17, 2009 (edited) No Thanks, Mines been done for over a year lol. Actually, I need to send the whole thing in for chroming. If you'd like to see how it was modified from just backrest to trunk and backrest I'd be happy to show ya pics. Perhaps you can improve on it (very likely in fact lol) Have fun, I love the options of windshield, no shield, backrest, trunk, no trunk, solo seat and the list goes on. If someone could come up with a buildable version that's not too cost prohibitive then it's a GREAT idea. I love the extra storage and lights. God Bless. Mike Edited March 18, 2009 by Mikealiasmike

RevDray Posted May 12, 2010 #21 Posted May 12, 2010 I read your quote were you able to construct something I can use on my '05 RSTD?
