Sideoftheroad Posted February 4, 2010 #1 Posted February 4, 2010 When I 1st got it, I could see icons for restaurants, gas stations, etc...on the map while I was driving. When I called Garmin on my issue, they had me to a hard reset so now all that is gone. Any ideas on how to get them back? Looked at the manual and doesn't seem to help. Thanks.
Eck Posted February 4, 2010 #2 Posted February 4, 2010 Not sure this will help but I have hear others mention this trick.. Remove the battery completely and leave it out for about 5 minutes, then reinstall it and see if that reset it. I am surprised that a Garmin tech didn't walk you through several steps / attempts to resolve the problem. I have always had great service from Garmin techs when I called them on mine. I would call them back and ask them again for more tech service to resolve your problem.
Sideoftheroad Posted February 4, 2010 Author #3 Posted February 4, 2010 Sorry. Should be a little more clear. We did a hard reset because the touchscreen doesn't work. They hoped that would solve the issue. As a result I lost the icons.
LilBeaver Posted February 4, 2010 #4 Posted February 4, 2010 I believe that what you are looking for are called "Proximity Alerts". Under the main menu, look for 'settings' then general, then proximity alerts. This might be what you are looking for. Then next thing to check would be to see if you have any points of interest loaded to begin with. Check out the 'find' menu to see if you can see anything nearby. If you canot, you need to download the 'point of interest loader' from the Garmin site (or, if you have it, the "City select" or "map source" software that comes with [some] Garmin units. (If you do not have the software then the points of interest loader is a free download from garmin.com). It has been a while since I have used one of these particular units, but I can see about getting a hold of a friend of mine that has one tomorrow if you still cannot figure it out. They might be able to help you out with this.
RoadKill Posted February 4, 2010 #5 Posted February 4, 2010 Yep, its a setting that went back to default after the reset. Proximity alerts. That being said, I had mine on for a short while on my 2730, but ended up only allowing my favorites to show. It was just way to cluttered.
Sideoftheroad Posted February 5, 2010 Author #6 Posted February 5, 2010 Looking at my 2730, Audion Notification is on, Visual Notification is on, Continuous notification is set for speed alerts only. I assume I need to change it to all alerts, is that correct? I did download POI loader to install the VR assistance file. Only software I have are the USB drivers and City Navigator North America 2009.
