Yesterday I rode out to Lafayette Powersports located at 612 Beau Pre Road in Lafayette to do a price check regarding maintenance for my scoot.....

Carb Synch.....$380.00....and the Service Manager sez it will take 4 hours of Labor !!!

Rear tire change-out.....$180.00.....Labor Charge Only!!!

Boomer.....who left there so fast he forgot to pee on the floor.....and will be going to any Maintenance Days he can beg an invite to!!

Wow! So that would be 6 hours of work at $90-95 an hour. I wonder how many hours the book calls for. They must be way to busy to take on more work. Yet another reason I've always done all my own work.

Wow.........That's so ridiculous it's almost laughable.

I'm a rookie and if you were in this neck of the woods a carb tune would take 15 mins and cost you a guiness.

Rear tire removal would take a little longer but the guiness wouldn't even be half gone.

Sounds like the BMW dealer in Baton Rouge. Called him to see if he had a K1200LT, back before I bought the Wing. He said "yes". Asked if he had one I could DEMO ride. He again said "yes". Told him I would be there saturday......it was thursday when I was talking to him. Drove the 2 hours and got there just after 10am. He had two new K1200LTs, but his demo was down because they removed a brake line on TUESDAY to fix a customer's bike. Could not let me demo the other new one, which was being assembled. But he let me in to the shop to look at it and answer questions. While we were in the shop the owner (female) came in and started yelling and cussing at me to get out of the shop because customers were not allowed due to insurance reasons. I tolds her I didn't just walk in, that I was ESCORTED by the Service Manager. She said she didn't care, just get out. I did just that, all the way out of the dealership. But before I left I told her that she had just lost a for sure sale and all future referrals from me. Two weeks later I bought the Wing. I was miffed because I had driven over and couldn't demo the bike. But when I saw the one being assembled I wanted it. Wouldn't give them the time of day now.

PS. Come to Biloxi and I'll do your carbs with my new carb tune, for free.

I just bought a new front tire and the shop quoted $24 off the bike, $45 on the bike (front or rear) to mount & balance. Truthfully, I don't think they took into consideration what was needed to do for the rear coz this shop deals mainly in sport bikes.

Don't matter anyhoo coz I'd be taking the wheels off the bike myself (mainly coz I don't trust a shop to do it right)

Thanks for the offer Rsstar.....I'm going to see if I can attend a Maintenance Day event somewhere near here in the near future. the scoot is running great now but I really want to learn how to synch my own carbs.

I work real close to that place. Once while we were still racing motocross, I needed to pick up a clutch lever to replace my spare parts since we had broke one the week before. I walked in...and they have I think 3 brands of bikes in there. Asked for a clutch lever for a Yamaha YZ250F/450F or YZ125/YZ250. They said they do not have them in stock but they can order me one. I said OK what about a clutch lever for a Suzuki 125 250F/450F or 250 two stroke? Do not have them but they can order me one. What about an aftermarket clutch lever for any of those bikes. Nope...none in stock but they can order it. I asked them how much to order me one. They were 3 times the price I could buy one anywhere else. I quickly exited and never never been back. Something as common as a clutch lever that gets broken regularly on a racing bike should be keep in stock. That one part is the same on a bunch of bikes. I do believe it is a tax write off for somebody cause I could not dream of buying a bike from them.

What part of LA you in? I live in Houston and was planning to ride to Shreveport on Friday for lunch. Something about a burger at the Southern Maid? I reckon Shreveport can't be too different from other parts of SW LA.

I got a SyncPro  and a long ass screwdriver. And a tachometer. If I had a carbtune, it'd be a no-brainer, but I can easily see getting to your place and seeing the SyncPro is screwed up.

Hi, after learning about a Venture one of my co-workers had (his dads bike) I went over

to his dads house and with flashlight n hand, I spied the Venture in a corner of the garage.

There was a nice bike, I told Cam, it was mine and later in the week I gave him 800.00 for the bike ( the neat thing is there were two bikes I got both) So due to the weather here in Calgary it was some time @two weeks before I could get the first bike.

Well the weather changed here (Chinook weather here, one day can be -40 f the next can be 60+f )

So off to U-Haul, for a trailer. This was the first time I had seen the bike in daylight.

Boy she looked great. Very low mileage as Cams dad was the first owner. ( what a score!!)

It hadn't been used for two years.

Lucky it had Stable fuel conditioner in her.

I also received a large amount of parts for the 84 as it was a complete bike and I'm going to make a naked bike from it. (runnig front enfdis off but it's there!!)

The 83 is green and is in first class shape, needs a lot of polishing all the bags are there real nice but the radio don't work any thougts would be helpfull!!.. There is a real good cycle shop here in Calgary and thats where I took her and Donny at Universal cycle did a full top to bottom service ( he commented that the valves hadn't been done since new. Saying it took 10 bucket shims to set the valves. and 3-4 oz of water in the diff They did a super carb sync to.. I have never heared this bike run and when Donny started her, "it was love in first run" Boy she is so nice and is quiet. He gave me a bill of $856.23.

I was happy to pay as I now have a bike with low miles and I know it will take me all over th mountains and back to my home in Ontario for this comming summer vacation

I need the righcover if any one has on to spare I'll buy from ya thanks Mike R..

Boy I like this bike.

ps I like older vitage rides.

Thanks for the time to Rant....:mytruck1::7_6_3[1]::canada::canada:

LOL Oh...well that makes sense!!!

I guess you also missed the Southern Maid burger? My gal buddy in Bossier City swears it is a killer. I asked if they use donuts as buns, and she refused to blab. Wimmen!

The estimator I use supposedly uses the factory warranty times:

Carburetors (all) - adjust: 0.5 Hours

Rear tire: 1.00 Hours

For what it's worth it lists setting Valve lash at 3.7 Hours.

Chief,

Come on over to Houston, or I'll come over to SW Lousianne and we'll make those things happen....'nuff said.

Squid that is exactly what I intend to do as soon as the weather warms up. For now the bike is running great but I forsee a carb synch and new rear tire by the end of February. I'll let ya know when the time comes and I'll gladly roll to Houston.

Regards and respect......Boomer

SQUID did my Carb Sync at MD-2009 I think it took him about as long as it took me to pull the rear seat and get it to Rick Butler and back (10-15 mins tops). THANKS SQUIDLY fellow Brother In Arms.... :)

Boomer - welcome back to crawfish country. Don't see how you stayed up north so long.

What are you near in La, Sulphur, Baton Rouge,..? If you're close enough, you'll have to hook up with the Houston group for a meet-n-eat some day.
