Cougar Posted February 3, 2010 #26 Posted February 3, 2010 Good point Brad. I never thought of that. mine weighs in at 1260 lbs on the grain scales now.
bongobobny Posted February 3, 2010 Author #27 Posted February 3, 2010 I wasn't too concerned about that Brad, asthe C.O.G. would be closer to the axle, but it is a moot point at this time as I decided to spring a couple hundred more and get the 10 foot version. My initial concern was weight and handling but I decided to sacrifice a little for the extra carrying space...
bongobobny Posted February 4, 2010 Author #28 Posted February 4, 2010 OK after checking availability and delivery time, I am now going with a 6X10 trailer from Lowes instead of a 5X10 from Tractor Supply. We are now talking an extra $400 but besides the guaranteed fit, it has wood floor and 15 in tires instead of 13 in. I get the hitch instaled on Mr Monte next weekend. Now all I need is a good wheel chock...

nyjerry Posted February 4, 2010 #30 Posted February 4, 2010 For $35. you can't beat it. Put one on a trailer and it worked great once it was adjusted to the tire. Have a good and safe trip and we'll see that trike this summer. I may have something to show you to. Jerry
Monty Posted February 4, 2010 #31 Posted February 4, 2010 If you don't find one, the bike shop right by my house sells a few types of chocks. www.pitbullmotorcyclelifts.com EDIT: They must be working on the site, 'cause I don't see anything but lifts. I know they have the chocks in stock though, along with tons of other stuff.
Freebird Posted February 4, 2010 #32 Posted February 4, 2010 When I moved from Texas to Ohio, I bought a 5 x 10 trailer to haul my bike to Ohio. I use this chock: http://www.blackandgray.com/wchockMain.php I later sold that trailer and left the chock on it but really did like it.
Monty Posted February 4, 2010 #33 Posted February 4, 2010 I found 'em. These are some of the chocks Pitbull sells. http://www.condor-lift.com/product.asp?ItemID=1001 This one is kinda pricey, but popular.
bongobobny Posted February 4, 2010 Author #34 Posted February 4, 2010 Wow!! Pricey fer sure Monty!! They are nice, though...
BradT Posted February 4, 2010 #35 Posted February 4, 2010 When I moved from Texas to Ohio, I bought a 5 x 10 trailer to haul my bike to Ohio. Think I have a picture of that somewhere. Bob, I think that was a better option, lots of room. Careful the tongue weight is not too light either. The trailer will push your car around quite a bit. Have good time, while away. Brad
nyjerry Posted February 4, 2010 #36 Posted February 4, 2010 Bob sorry I didn't list where it was from. It's at harbo frieght. Jerry
Evan Posted February 4, 2010 #37 Posted February 4, 2010 Bob - Been away sledding (on my Yamaha Venture snowmobile) so I am now trying to catch up on posts. Good luck with your trailering! Would like to make one comment not addressed by others, although you are probably on top of this. Proper tongue weight is important. Insufficient tongue can be dangerous.
massey130 Posted February 4, 2010 #38 Posted February 4, 2010 Bob sorry I didn't list where it was from. It's at harbo frieght. Jerry ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bob, i too, use the harbor freight chock. i have only used it a couple times, but it holds just fine. i am fortunate to have a HF store not far from here. i had a coupon plus it was on sale. i have about 32 bux in mine. if you get this one, use the bottom hole for the adjusting part of the chock. i have since taken that part off completely and just use tie downs after wedging in the front tire. having 3 wheels makes the chock's job of helping the uprighting of a 2 wheeler less of a concern.
Cougar Posted February 4, 2010 #39 Posted February 4, 2010 One thing to remember is to make sure to figure the right distance. for the chock , (not sure if it is bolted down) when hauling the bike there when in 2 wheel form. and the distance after the rake kit is installed. (Length) so if these chock's need holes drilled maybe drill another set for the distance after the conversion is done. (make since?) bring the cordless drill with you ! Jeff
bongobobny Posted February 4, 2010 Author #40 Posted February 4, 2010 OK I am now a proud owner of a Carry-On 6 x 10 trailer to be delivered by Mar 3. Yah, Harbor Freight is probably where I will get the Chock from or perhaps JC Whitney. I plan on mounting the chock as far forward as possible but Yes I will take the cordless dril with me. I also plan on tieing it down in several places such as the crash bars, passenger grab rails, etc but NOT the handlebars, they get bent waaaaay too easy! Now, for protection I have been thinking of wrapping the bike with blankets secured with bungees or rope and then a cover over the whole thing. Somehow I feel the soft blankets, secured, will not flop in the breeze like a tarp or cover would and damage the paint...
Cougar Posted February 4, 2010 #41 Posted February 4, 2010 And.... Call John Lee and ask him to make sure they have one of there Custom Trike Covers there in stock for that model! There excellent Quality and fit great! there is even bottom tie's as well that will keep it on. Now go and try and sleep! Sounds like you have all your bases covered. Jeff
bongobobny Posted February 5, 2010 Author #42 Posted February 5, 2010 1 step ahead of you, Jeff, already ordered!!
Carbon_One Posted February 5, 2010 #44 Posted February 5, 2010 Looking like you're getting all the bases covered pretty good there Bob. I use a 5 x 10 landscaper trailer with steel mesh ramp and my trike just fits in nicely. I also use the Harbor Freight wheel chock. No problems whatever there. Bet the anticipation is going to about kill ya till you get that sweet ride home. Larry
bongobobny Posted February 5, 2010 Author #45 Posted February 5, 2010 You better beleive it Larry!!!!!
PBJ Posted February 5, 2010 #46 Posted February 5, 2010 Man Bob I can't wait to see this beauty. I'm a Hannigan fan myself. And did you Notice NY Jerry mentioning he might have a new ride this summer? Hey Jerry, What is it? What is it?
dogman Posted February 5, 2010 #47 Posted February 5, 2010 Congratulations Bob, I'm excited for you and look forward to riding with you and seeing this new beast on the road.
Monty Posted February 6, 2010 #48 Posted February 6, 2010 I found out tonight that I could've gotten you a better deal if you had called me first. Anyone else who is thinking of getting a Hannigan kit.....call me first. I'll see how much money I can save you. For you Bob, it sounds like it might be too late. It's not a whole lot, but every little bit helps.
bongobobny Posted February 6, 2010 Author #49 Posted February 6, 2010 Well, I saved $1000 by taking advantage of their winter sale, and by going to the factory I saved another $1000 in shipping and handling...
Cougar Posted February 6, 2010 #50 Posted February 6, 2010 Bob, I was just wondering what color is your 09 is ?
