Blue Giant Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Should I disconnect the battery from the bike before putting it on a trickle charger. I thought I read somewhere that not disconnecting it can fry the electronics. Did a search but can't find anything. Thanks, Paul
Squidley Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Paul, Not that it really matters, but are you using a battery tender? FWIW I have NEVER disconnected the battery when I have had it on a trickle charge. I have never heard of anyone burning up electronics trickle charging a battery.
friesman Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Ive never done that with a trickle charger, but Ive always been super careful which lead went where. Also, what would be the point of the quick disconnect leads that the battery tender type of trickle charger has if you were supposed to disconnect. Also, most of the new trickle chargers have polarity checks, warnings and shutoffs built in so youre not supposed to hurt yourself or the scoot. I would say youre fine but do a visual double check before you actually make contact with a terminal. brian
