Bummer Posted January 29, 2010 #26 Posted January 29, 2010 I myself have noticed since I made to switch to (7) I am having no issues anymore since I left XP. it has been very safe environment for me. and on all our systems in the home.Ah, but it's still Windows. First zero day exploit. A recent article on Slashdot, shortly after the Google break in, lead to information about an old exploit that runs through all copies of Windows back to the change from '98. Microsoft says they'll patch it. Most of the Slashdot crowd chuckled. Apparently "Built on NT technology" is seen as a warning.
BuddyRich Posted January 30, 2010 #27 Posted January 30, 2010 Did you update your adobe reader lately ?
Bummer Posted January 30, 2010 #28 Posted January 30, 2010 Yes. But I rarely use it. I'm running 64 bit Fedora on a quad core 64 machine. Adobe only supplies 32 bit code, so I use an open reader that is 64 bit. Everything I've read indicates that the exploit simply won't work on Linux. It ultimately comes down to installing a Windows back door. I do agree, however, that in general all software should be kept updated. Unfortunately not everyone does.
CrazyHorse Posted January 31, 2010 #29 Posted January 31, 2010 I read something about adobe pdf's and viruses in them.
