Al Bates Posted January 28, 2010 #1 Posted January 28, 2010 Ok, What happened to the thread about the glocks? Got interrested in this thread, went back and it disappeared.
DragonRider Posted January 28, 2010 #2 Posted January 28, 2010 I guess it got too hot.................. Ok, What happened to the thread about the glocks? Got interrested in this thread, went back and it disappeared.
flb_78 Posted January 28, 2010 #3 Posted January 28, 2010 That's what's missing. I knew something was up when I checked my previous posts and it showed I hadn't posted in a couple of days. I wonder what happened, It seemed to be going good for the first 2 pages.
Tom Posted January 28, 2010 #5 Posted January 28, 2010 I enjoyed it too but unfortunately I could see where it was going....I hope that in the future some can keep the Politics out of the threads..hard to do,but Freebird has asked us MANY times to respect that.
Freebird Posted January 28, 2010 #6 Posted January 28, 2010 That is exactly what happened. It's really a shame that folks can't discuss something else that is of interest without it getting hijacked with all the political mess. I posted TWO times to NOT let it get political but some folks just can't let it go.
Bummer Posted January 28, 2010 #7 Posted January 28, 2010 Oh man, I logged out for a few minutes and missed everything. Sigh.
Aimhigh Posted January 28, 2010 #8 Posted January 28, 2010 That is exactly what happened. It's really a shame that folks can't discuss something else that is of interest without it getting hijacked with all the political mess. Bigfoot Posted January 28, 2010 #9 Posted January 28, 2010 is it possible to delete the inappropriate postings rather than to kill the whole thread? I'd support this. I belong to another forum and this is what they'll do when an inappropriate post is made. As long as the majority of the thread is going good it could work. Just MHO.
CMIKE Posted January 28, 2010 #10 Posted January 28, 2010 I feel it was me that might have caused it to go away but..I did not see nothing politcal about anything I posted or anything that was posted before me. I would appreciate if someone would explain to me where the politics was in that post so I will know next time what to stay away from. I know we should not get into arguments about candidates or what one or the other party is doing in our governement and how we feel about it. I am sure golbal warming and gun control is one of the issues to stay away from also. I did not see any of that. I will admit I did, (but not on purpose) highjack the thread to share some information, I felt very strongly that all should consider if they plan on carring a gun. Most folks are not aware of that responsiblity. If you do not want to post it openly...the PM me so I will know. WE are all supposed to be sort of friends here...If I need an XXX chrewing for doing something wrong...Do me a favor and let me know...I am not thin skinned. I know...I know... I probably should have sat back and kept my mouth shut on this one also.
Squidley Posted January 28, 2010 #11 Posted January 28, 2010 If anyone thinks they were the cause of it being removed, know that as Moderators we contact that member and let them know.
Freebird Posted January 28, 2010 #12 Posted January 28, 2010 You folks may be right. I probably should have just deleted the posts that took the thread off track. To be honest, I allowed myself to get a bit irritated after my two requests to NOT take it down that road were totally ignored. I will try to do a better job in the future.
BuddyRich Posted January 28, 2010 #13 Posted January 28, 2010 Then we just notify the poster we deleted his post due to what ever the reason may be ?
Freebird Posted January 28, 2010 #14 Posted January 28, 2010 To be honest, I think if you have posted a warning or two and they continue anyway, I don't think a notification should even be necessary. Most should be able to figure it out.
LilBeaver Posted January 28, 2010 #15 Posted January 28, 2010 You folks may be right. I probably should have just deleted the posts that took the thread off track. To be honest, I allowed myself to get a bit irritated after my two requests to NOT take it down that road were totally ignored. I will try to do a better job in the future. Quite frankly, I don't see an issue with it either way. It seems like a lot of work to go through and pick apart a whole thread post by post, deciding which ones ought to come out and which ones ought to stay, etc. Unless it is very clearly one or two that are way out of line or something... I can certainly see pros and cons to both methods. But whatever you guys want to do; I'll just try to stay out of trouble
Freebird Posted January 28, 2010 #16 Posted January 28, 2010 It shouldn't be necessary at all. I don't think there is a single person here who doesn't know when they are crossing the line or just stirring something that doesn't need stirring. There will still be times when entire threads will be deleted and quite frankly, I don't want to ask the moderators to read through every single post and have to decide which posts are OK and which or not. If it's an otherwise good thread though with only a couple of posts that seem to be doing nothing but disrupt and turn it into something that it wasn't intended to be, we'll try to be a bit more selective.
barend Posted January 29, 2010 #17 Posted January 29, 2010 The problem I see with that Don, is that if you don't get it before it hits the forum, there may be answers relating to the post you want to delete, would you then have to delete those replies as well. I am nosy enough to wonder who said what on some threads, but I'm sure I'll live Keep doing what you're doing, the only other reasonable alternative I see is to lock the thread so nobody can post to it.
starkruzen Posted January 29, 2010 #18 Posted January 29, 2010 Since I started the post...I didn't get my answer. I think my H&K compact is the bomb. I like gund with safety's and a de-cocker. The gun is used my the Israily's...although the Glock shoots really well, to me I think it just because it is rather cheap in price that makes it so popular.
Monty Posted January 29, 2010 #19 Posted January 29, 2010 I think you should just delete the bad posts, and the person/persons choosing to ignore your warnings should get a slap on the wrist to warn them(like a 24 hr ban for first offense, etc...). This is your forum, and if people can't obey your rules, especially after you warn them, then they need some form of punishment, or go somewhere where they CAN post their drivel. Just my 2 cents.
Freebird Posted January 29, 2010 #20 Posted January 29, 2010 (edited) Since I started the post...I didn't get my answer. I think my H&K compact is the bomb. I like gund with safety's and a de-cocker. The gun is used my the Israily's...although the Glock shoots really well, to me I think it just because it is rather cheap in price that makes it so popular. I hate to see this even start up again but I also don't think I understand. You say that you didn't get your answer but I don't see a question. Edited January 29, 2010 by Freebird
midnightventure Posted January 29, 2010 #21 Posted January 29, 2010 I posted about a video and went to play basketball. When I got back the thread was gone. I assume that if I had done something wrong I would have gotten a notification?
Freebird Posted January 29, 2010 #22 Posted January 29, 2010 I honestly don't remember everybody who posted and what they said. I just know that it was getting nasty with one person posting an opinion on people carrying guns and then some others responding in some not so kind ways. It was started by somebody posting his opinion about people carrying guns. That should not have been posted. The discussion was NOT about gun control, gun ownership, right to carry, etc. It should not have been posted but once it was, it should have simply been ignored by everybody else. I did not send any notifications to anybody because I feel that the parties know who they are and after two warnings to stop it, they refused to do so. If anybody thinks they may have been a guilty party, then they PROBABLY were. Now can we all let this one go please.
dingy Posted January 29, 2010 #23 Posted January 29, 2010 It would be helpful to know when something we posted was over the line and caused a deletion. I know that some of the jokes I post are 'out there' a little bit, but I don't really think any are way over the line. But if one is deleted I may not even realize it. It's not like I 'monitor' the threads I post jokes to. For example, I posted the 'Navy Carrier Humor' reply a few days ago about the thread where someone had visited the Midway carrier museum. That joke could have been taken as political or religous, but it seemed no one posted being offended by it. Gary
Freebird Posted January 29, 2010 #24 Posted January 29, 2010 I understand and this has been discussed before. Sometimes the person who posts something that is borderline will receive an private message about it. That is IF it is truly borderline and we feel that it was truly a case where it was not intended to cause problems. There are others that are very clearly across the line and/or against our few rules here. We are not going to waste our time contacting those people. Your joke about the Navy carrier was in fact borderline. I have been watching it...as I do ALL threads...and was prepared to remove it if trouble started but on any such thing that is borderline, we will let it go unless trouble starts. Look folks, moderating a forum is not an easy job. There are many gray areas. Fortunately, MOST people here know the limits and that makes our job much easier. Others just like to see how far they can push things. Fortunately that is only a very few people. We are all adults here, it should not be necessary to baby sit.

Gee ......Thank you Don ! I yet haven't received any PM's . So I assume that I'm a GOOD BOY! Thank you ! Thank you ! Thank you ! Thank you ! Thank you ! See there everyone , I'm not all that BAD , LOL ! Question here: Since when ever have I claimed to be an Adult ? I might grow older , but I refuse to grow up :rasberry:. Anyways , I vote to delete the post only . In most threads/topics , there is a vast amount of info that does GOOD . I hate to see that info. vanish into oblivion because of a few poor judgement/destructive post . By the way , where did the "Report Post" button go ? BEER30
