SilvrT Posted January 27, 2010 #1 Posted January 27, 2010 Been cruising some posts for variations in Tires and their mfg codes/sizes. Stock Brickstones are 150-80H-16 front and a 150-90H-15 rear Avon's are (from what I can tell) Front: Avon AM41 150/80-16 71H Rear: Avon AM42 150/90B15 80H I can't find a listing for a 130 Avon for the front ... they do have them (yes/no)? I also read elsewhere in the site that someone's running a 180 rear.. can we put a 180 on and if so, what brand/code/size? Would also appreciate list of other brands/codes/sizes you guys are running ... I want to go with a 130 front.
SilvrT Posted January 28, 2010 Author #3 Posted January 28, 2010 WHY? Why do you ask why? (not another "why" thread I hope)
SilvrT Posted January 28, 2010 Author #4 Posted January 28, 2010 bump .. ??? guys ?? Thought I had Bridgestones but NOT ... they're Dunlop D404's .... 18,000+ kms and still lots of tread on the rear ... front is close to the wear indicators.
YYZ Posted January 28, 2010 #5 Posted January 28, 2010 I'm pretty new to this but from what I've read so far the 180mm you have read about would have been a car tire. No-one has been able to fit a 180mm motorcycle tire on our bikes. Just not enough room.
Eck Posted January 28, 2010 #6 Posted January 28, 2010 Avons: Diameter of stock size 150/80HB-16, and the smaller width size MT90-16 Note: Both tires have a diameter of 25.100" MT90HB-16 (or 130/90-16) on the front. This tire is 1" narrower than stock, but the same diameter. Bike sits exactly the same height front and rear. Rear Avon Venom-X AM42 150/90B15 80H (All AM41s are front tires, and AM42s are rear tires.) Dunlop D404 150/80HB-16 Wide Whitewall Front Dunlop D404 150/90HB-15 Wide White Wall Rear

No-one has been able to fit a 180mm motorcycle tire on our bikes. Just not enough room. Thinking back to the post I read, I believe the person must have been riding either a V-Star or a Road Star coz they stated their scoot came stock with a 170. I've contemplated going with the car tire on the rear but after reading a number of posts I don't think it will be right for my riding style or the roads around here (a lot of twisties).

Pecker Posted January 28, 2010 #9 Posted January 28, 2010 I am running a 170 - 80 on the rear. It's a Bridgestone Spitfire dual compound sport/touring tire. I'm on my second Spitfire rear and absolutely love it. The mileage wear is decent, they handle very well, and the price is a lot less than Avons or Metzlers. I think I paid $76 for my last one, plus shipping. I had to grind about 1/8 th inch off of the rear fender inner supports, it never did rub, I just wanted a little extra clearance for piece of mind. Pecker Posted January 28, 2010 #11 Posted January 28, 2010 I'm running an MT90 (130/90) up front. Dave
