V7Goose Posted January 24, 2010 #1 Posted January 24, 2010 Hey Don, I have an idea for the maintenance day pre-event this year. You know last year we did a carb float seminar on the day before the carnival, so maybe we do a steering head bearing seminar this year? It takes at least twice as much work to do those bearings, but we should still be able to do it if nothing else is going on. I'm open to other suggestions, too. Goose
Freebird Posted January 24, 2010 #2 Posted January 24, 2010 We could do that or a valve check...which I just happen to need on my bike.
flb_78 Posted January 24, 2010 #3 Posted January 24, 2010 We could do that or a valve check...which I just happen to need on my bike. If you wanna check your valves, have your own dang maintenance day!!! oh wait, my bad....
V7Goose Posted January 24, 2010 Author #5 Posted January 24, 2010 We could do that or a valve check...which I just happen to need on my bike. That works too. I have all the stuff, tho my shim kit is new and a bit light in a couple of the common sizes. But I'm sure we can take care of that. Goose
V7Goose Posted June 6, 2010 Author #6 Posted June 6, 2010 OK folks, The annual carnival is just around the corner. We never decided on the 2nd annual pre-event for Friday - Don suggested a valve clinic. I'm up for that, but recently BUSTED my valve tool! So I can bring my shim kit, but we need someone else to be there with a valve tool (and probably a send shim kit to make sure we have whatever sizes are needed, since my kit is still pretty light). Let me know if anyone can participate with the needed items. Goose

Freebird better make sure he has these parts, hate to see a bike spread all over and can't be put back together due to lack of gaskets By the way, is the valve clinic being done on Friday or Saturday? I want to be there when this happens and take some notes.
Freebird Posted June 6, 2010 #8 Posted June 6, 2010 I've got the valve tool. Gary Dinges sent one to be given away as a door prize. We'll just give away a used one. I forgot about the gaskets though. I'll get them ordered tomorrow.

RandyR Posted June 6, 2010 #10 Posted June 6, 2010 I'll bring my shim kit and an extra tool. I have a few of Gary's shim swap tables as well and a handy extractor tool he made. Not sure whether I'll attend the clinic or not. I was planning on going to Cedar Point on Friday to ride the roller coasters.

MiCarl Posted June 6, 2010 #13 Posted June 6, 2010 Don, I gave you a fork wrench tool. Not sure how it will work on the valves. The RSV's must be a little different, than their faster older brothers. Gary Uh oh. Better go back to the steering head clinic plan then....... Or, you could use the tool I sent Don. (Gary, I think one of us has been insulted!) How are you guys set for shims? I'm about to place an order with the supplier tomorrow, should get them there just in time if I put them in tomorrows order.
Freebird Posted June 6, 2010 #14 Posted June 6, 2010 OOPS...sorry... I do have the tool but it was donated by MiCarl. Just ordered the valve cover gaskets.
BradT Posted June 7, 2010 #15 Posted June 7, 2010 We'll just give away a used one. At least we will know if it works. Brad
V7Goose Posted June 7, 2010 Author #16 Posted June 7, 2010 OK, it's official- we will have a valve clinic on Friday. We begin tearing the bike apart at 0930 - that probably means we'll be at the valves around 1130 or noon - all depends on how much bench racing we do and how soon I break into the beer! Just for anyone that is interested in the carb floats, we'll demonstrate that too - pulling the carbs is just the first part of doing the valves. Goose
