Anyone here ever have this procedure done? I'm having it done this Wed. to my left Kidney. There's been no pain but blood was in my urine after exercising. Scans show a very large (Dr's words) Kidney stone attached to the walls. I've heard one person say there was no problem and another one who had some problems.

Pray they get it out before it decides to exit on its own.

I had a 'large' stone start to come out on its own and it was more painful than any of the other injuries I have had in my life. Including two crushed vertebra.:crying:

Morphine was not killing the pain. Doctor went up my urethra while I was knocked out to get mine.

My step daughter had hers blasted & she said it was as painful as a c-section.

This is Big Tony's wife and I've actually had it done a few times and its not bad at all. If you have no other kidney/bladder problems, you should be good to go. Now I'm not gonna lie, passing the "particals" may cause some pain, but I doubt you will feel much. If you have a decent doctor at all he will put you on some decent pain meds for a few days and you will be fine.

Get plently of rest and drink alot of cranberry juice!!

A few years ago I had a kidney stone and had the procedure to blast it. The next morning I was hurting so bad I thought I was going to die. Called my doctor and he said to get to his office right away. They xrayed and the kidney stone was still intact. The doctor said there were three options. One was to try to pass it. As long as it wasn't obstructing my urine flow doctor said it was ok to try to pass. If it obstructs urine flow it can damage your kidneys. Two, they could could up my penis and pull the stone out. I ruled that one out right away. Three could do surgery and remove the stone. I went home and drank a six pack of beer and drank cranberry juice for about a week. I finally passed the stone. I pray I never have one again. It is the most painful thing I have ever experienced.

Dang Bigfoot. I didn't read this till I got home. Would have told you good luck earlier. I had one back in 93 and it came out without help. I can tell you, I never knew something so little could hurt so much. Looked a tad bigger than a grain of sand.

Good luck.

Have you ever asked a question and once you got the answers you wished you'd have kept your big mouth closed? Well that's me now. :bang head: Just kidding. Thanks for the answers. I'm getting the very LARGE stone blasted on Wed.

I've had them twice. first time they blasted not to bad ,second time had 2 in there. couldn't pass it so in the exit they went while i was knocked out, woke up with a tube hanging out of Jr. It felt like the nurse was trying to start a push mower when she pulled it out!!!! still makes me nautious thinking about it. They said I could go home after i used the restroom! It felt like a razor blade was coming out!!!!They needed to leave a tube in there for some time and the Dr. removed it in the office. Make ssssuuuuuurrrrrre they let the numbing stuff take hold before they go in to get anything if your awake. Don't ask how I know that. I hope you don't have to go the route I did my Bro.

i've had several that were a bit larger than a BB, the last one had hooks on it. i've never paid to have them blasted, because i haven't had insurance till lately.

not that it helps you now, but after you pass a few big ones, they aren't that bad. i pass'em in a few hours now.

Doesn't seem like 20 years, but my 26 year old son had to have it done when he was 6. The doctor said he was one of if not the youngest, if not THE youngest, patients he had ever treated. He was sedated for the procedure. When they brought him back to the room his back was covered with black and blue bruises. He recovered quickly and was sent home later that day. The sent a "funnel", with a screen in the bottom, home with us. They wanted us to catch the "sand" for several days 'til it disappeared. Never had any trouble after the procedure.

I still, somewhere, have the spark plug looking device they used.
