TIMEtoRIDE Posted January 17, 2010 #1 Posted January 17, 2010 Hello all, I had been running my business and storing equipment at a friends 5 acres, and 2 months ago bought the place. The neighbor had a little camp fire, thought it was out. The grass was brown and dry from frost. Here's the results: http://www.xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=22564.html (pics and more details are already posted at this ^ site, makes me sick looking at them, hope this doesn't break any posting rules) I will know more Tuesday when the Insurance Adjuster comes out. The '88 VR is safe ( but I had the tank and side covers in the shed!) Pray for Haiti, I'll be OK.
Blackjack Posted January 17, 2010 #2 Posted January 17, 2010 I regret to hear of your property loss and difficulty. I sure hope your friend's insurance policy covers you properly. Keep us posted! TERRY
Sideoftheroad Posted January 17, 2010 #4 Posted January 17, 2010 Gees. Must have been a pretty nasty fire. Most important thing is it sounds like no one was hurt.
slick97spirit Posted January 17, 2010 #5 Posted January 17, 2010 Aw man, that really sucks. Those looked like some really nice bikes.
Carbon_One Posted January 17, 2010 #6 Posted January 17, 2010 looking at all those pics makes one want to pound the living S*** out of somebody I bet. Wish you luck dealing with the ins co's. Also look into any laws this idiot may have broken and been responsible for. Larry
Brenda H Posted January 17, 2010 #7 Posted January 17, 2010 Definitely bad news. At least you are OK. As for your neighbor and his lil fire, one of the guys who lives not far from us thought he'd do some welding out in his pasture during a dry spell. By the time they got that fire under control, over 100+ acres were gone. The local VFD's kept any houses from going up but several barns were gone. A friend of ours had penned up his cattle in brand new working pens getting them ready for market. By the time the cops let him go home to his place, he was sure he was going home to one VERY large pile of roast beef [his words!]. Well fortunately for him, those pens weren't as well built as he thought. The cattle had completely flattened 2 sides of the pen in their escape. I never have found out just what his own stupidity cost the dingbat with the welding rig but I'll bet it was a very tidy sum! Any possibility of suing the pants off your neighbor???
Bummer Posted January 17, 2010 #8 Posted January 17, 2010 Wow. Good luck with getting that mess straightened out. Looks like you should have one heck of a list by the time you're done.
kenw Posted January 17, 2010 #9 Posted January 17, 2010 Sorry to hear about your loss, but at least nobody got hurt! I hope the insurance will help you recover.
Condor Posted January 17, 2010 #10 Posted January 17, 2010 I hope you can iron out the insurance details. Years ago the neighbors oak tree fell on my sailboat which I had on a trailer in the back yard. Because it wasn't in a marina and secured in the back yard I let the insurance lapse. When I called my agent she explained that the boat wasn't covered under the property insurance because it was a vehicle and required it's own insurance. The neighbor's insurance wouldn't cover it because it was an 'Act of God'. Your bikes may fall under negligence. I hope they are.
BIG TOM Posted January 17, 2010 #11 Posted January 17, 2010 Wow, that really sucks...Hope every thing works out for you...Ins. co. can be a pain to deal with as I'm sure you already know.........good luck and keep us posted........
TIMEtoRIDE Posted January 23, 2010 Author #12 Posted January 23, 2010 An update and good news, Finally met the adjuster. Things are looking better, he suggested getting a POD to save any valuables, and photograph my losses as I tear into the shed., big shed. Due to the burn ban, the insurance may be generous, as there is already legal action. He was also impressed that I have lots of "before" pics.
