djb47 Posted January 12, 2010 #1 Posted January 12, 2010 Sometimes (but not aways) I have a hard time getting the gas cap off my 99 RSV. I have to turn the key and then try to grip the cap with the other hand while turning the key to get it to release. The bib around the opening seems to keep the cap from going down all the way, but not sure. Any ideas would be helpful.
Monsta Posted January 12, 2010 #2 Posted January 12, 2010 I took my gas cap apart and lightly greased everything. If you do, be careful of the springs inside. They can get lost easily.
BoomerCPO Posted January 12, 2010 #3 Posted January 12, 2010 I took an Exacto knife and carefully shaved off a bit of that bib....and taking the cap apart and getting a touch of lithium grease in there helped a lot too. Boomer.....who knows that without gas everything slows down....including the body.
frogmaster Posted January 12, 2010 #4 Posted January 12, 2010 I think this was reported before and in that case that was the symptom similar as the phillips screw was coming loose on the bottom of the Gas Cap. In one or 2 cases the screw fell into the Tank. I hope that is not your issue but only takes a few minutes te check that screw. good luck
Bummer Posted January 13, 2010 #5 Posted January 13, 2010 I read the previous post on the screws and trotted right out and checked mine. One was more loose than I liked. Might not be the problem in this case, but definitely worth checking.
Blackjack Posted January 13, 2010 #6 Posted January 13, 2010 Here's the thread about the screws that live upside down in the bottom of the gas cap: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35894 If the screws are loose (and likely they are), the parts that comprise the cap get a bit moved around and you'll have trouble getting it off and on. I hope this helps! TERRY
eusa1 Posted January 13, 2010 #7 Posted January 13, 2010 press down on the sides of the cap slightly while turning the key, the bib creates a bit of binde on the lock . seen several this way. mike
