breezelasbre73 Posted January 12, 2010 #1 Posted January 12, 2010 hi,one of the the brothers on this site came up with a good idea.i was doing alot of posting about get ing sounds on my stock 83 venture.i have the slightest ideal how to go about doing this.i installed the speakers,now its on to the radio.i saw the wiring chart for the bike and i am sure enuff lost.was wondering about the marine cd player i saw at walmart,or going with a small amp with the aux input so i can use my mp3 player.i was wondering where there any venture owners in the dallas area who has done this to there bike.i need help and dont know where to start.i figure going to an stereo shop would be high dollar.well if anyone has any ideas.places i can go to. thanks again
Herb In Texas Posted January 12, 2010 #2 Posted January 12, 2010 Don't know much about the first gens but if you get a hold of AAron at Yamaha west in Fort Worth I bet he can help you figure out the schematic. they are a great bunch of guy's I highly recomend them. dingy Posted January 12, 2010 #6 Posted January 12, 2010 I have attached a PDF file of the 83's wiring with the Audio power plug highlighted with a red 'cloud'. Your radio will probably have two power inputs. One will be a constant 12VDC source, this one is to keep clock & memory working. 2nd will be a switched 12VDC source. This one turns radio on & off with key. Inside the 'cloud' in the PDF file is the schematic of the connector that I posted picture above. You will need to remove the headlight to find this connector, or you may see it under the left fairing cover where I showed radio The Red/Blue wire at this connector is the constant 12VDC. The Red wire is the switched 12VDC. The Black wire is ground. Cut the connector off & wire a fuse into each of the 12V sources. The size of these fuses will be shown in Radio instructions if you have them. You will add the fuses per above comment that are shown inside 'cloud' in PDF file. Gary

I looked at your profile and didn't see no number or I would call you. 817-201-0719 is mine. I may have a half a day free this weekend. Got the Stock Show and work and my Daughter home from Afganistan on mid tour but mabee can squeeze in a half a day. You gotta come to my place though. Im right at a hundred mile west of Dallas proper.
