Where do you want to pick up A1A? Plot you course to there and then there to Keys. Also, uncheck highways and that will avoid the GPS using Interstates. Maybe change settings from fastest route, also.

I don't have a garmin, but most are similar.

I was to pick up A1A around Jacksonville the cut over north of Miami..thru gator alley

I will try the settings, I was thinking that some units don't take loaded maps only the fastest route..

Thanks...

Oh the red is still faster

Some of the lower priced units wont store routes...when all else fails...read the manual.

scarylarry, I assume you have a Nuvi 205. I assume what you were trying to do was to create your own route. There are many maps that let you do this, including a good one on the Harley site. Unfortunately your Nuvi 205 does not have this feature called routing. In the Nuvi line you will have to purchase at least a Nuvi 750 before you have this feature.

Remember the options of "Shortest Routes" or "Shortest Distance".....

Sometimes they are different, plus other options of avoiding highways, toll roads etc....:biker:

On this page, specs for the 205, it says under Maps and Memory: ZERO routes. What this means is, it has no memory for downloading routes. Navigation it will do of course, but only on-the-fly.

However, it will hold 1000 waypoints. So, you can manually enter your route by going from waypoint to waypoint essentially over riding the fastest/shortest time options. Using Mapsource create the waypoints you need then save them and upload them using the POI loader. Once on your trip, select each POI (waypoint) in order to stay on your selected route. It will take some time to do this but it works. It will help if you name each POI in order ie. FL01, FL02, FL03, etc See page 46 of your manual.

I had assumed everyone knew you can navigate by going from one place to another...I didnt bother to mention it. Thats the way i navigate on mine. I never need to follow a pre- programmed 'route'...but others may want this feature.

You're going to have to pick up A1A after Saint Augustine, because there is a big break from Jax to St. Aug...

I have the Nuvi 200w. Just go in the options, and choose not to take the highway. It'll plot you either to A1A or US1. Other than that, if you're already on A1A, you won't need a GPS. Just keep heading south, until the pavement ends!!!

Hope it works for you...

Not to change the supject. But I was at costco and they had the Garmin 665 and 1460. I would rather have a waterproof one but the price is better. Any advise on which one is better. The 1460 has a 5 inch screen and the 665 has a 4.3 screen. I kind of like the 5 inch.
