No, The mounting brackets are different between an 83-85, and the 86-93's.
timgray Posted January 10, 2010 #4 Posted January 10, 2010 you need one for a 83-85 as condor says. Good luck getting one, it took me a year to find one in like new condition with all the mounting parts. If you buy one make sure you get the mounts, without them the backrest is useless.
dingy Posted January 10, 2010 #6 Posted January 10, 2010 No, The mounting brackets are different between an 83-85, and the 86-93's. Aw shucks, I tried. Gary

Squidley Posted January 11, 2010 #8 Posted January 11, 2010 Right now his name escapes me, but one of the members was giving away a backrest. He was right close to you in Georgia I believe. All you would have to do is find the brackets.
breezelasbre73 Posted January 11, 2010 Author #9 Posted January 11, 2010 wish i could find it but i will be on the look out for it
Squidley Posted January 11, 2010 #10 Posted January 11, 2010 wish i could find it but i will be on the look out for it If I can remember his name I'll post it for you.
MikesBike Posted January 11, 2010 #11 Posted January 11, 2010 Squidley, Do you remember if it was a VentureLine backrest? I have the VentureLine mount but don't have the backrest itself. I've thought about bending some stainless tubing and making my own, looks like the hinge that folds forward will be the most difficult part to fabricate.
Squidley Posted January 11, 2010 #12 Posted January 11, 2010 Breeze and Mike It was PastorPaul that had it, not sure if he still does but here's the thread http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42146
RandyR Posted January 11, 2010 #13 Posted January 11, 2010 Yep. he still has it. At the M&E yesterday he mentioned he had forgotten to bring it, as he was going to give it to Blackjack. So, Blackjack may have dibs on it.

warthogcrewchief Posted January 11, 2010 #15 Posted January 11, 2010 Thirdbike has three VR's he's parting out. Give him a shout and see if he has the part you need.
Marcarl Posted January 11, 2010 #16 Posted January 11, 2010 Somewhere I remember that the works off of the old Gold Wings worked. May want to look into that thought.
Condor Posted January 11, 2010 #17 Posted January 11, 2010 i have tried bike salvage yards.i am on ebay all day and night.the guy at the salvage yard hade 3 ventures no backrest.he said good luck finding one too. thanks again Be patient on the Ebay search. This time of year Ebay doesn't have a lot to chose from. Things will start to heat up around March.
a1bummer Posted January 11, 2010 #18 Posted January 11, 2010 If I remember right, the drivers backrest itself is the same for the MKI & MKII. It's just the mounting hardware that's different. If I'd of known that when I had a MKII backrest and hardware, I wouldn't of let it go. I later got an 83 for a parts bike after getting knocked down in a parking lot my a car backing out oh a parking space that had the mounting hardware, but not the backrest. So if you find a drivers backrest off a MKII cheap, jump on it and be patient. You might find the mounting hardware later. I sold that backrest to someone here nice and cheap too. I HOPE YOUR HAPPY! LOL!
warthogcrewchief Posted January 11, 2010 #19 Posted January 11, 2010 I found the Markland backrest from a GL1500 and it worked nearly perfectly on my '89 VR. When I was in the junkyard last month, I saw a few MKI's that had the rubber pads on the top of the saddle bag guards. It appeared those pads were used for mounting a driver's backrest.

Most of the MKI back rests are Markland as Yamaha didn't get on the accessory bandwagon right away. The Venturelines have a rotating disc attachment while the Marklands do not.
elmicko Posted January 12, 2010 #21 Posted January 12, 2010 The backrest he's wanting info on is the one I have for sale in the classifieds. It isn't a Ventureline backrest, so I assume it's a Markland, but I don't know for sure. I haven't had a chance to see if the brackets will go on a MKI. If anyone can look at my ad and give any info that would be great. Thanks, Mick

So would this be the Markland or the Ventureline? This is the one I had but let go.
breezelasbre73 Posted January 12, 2010 Author #23 Posted January 12, 2010 if i could find one off of another type of bike please let me know.i figurether are more goldwings parts out there anyway
elmicko Posted January 12, 2010 #24 Posted January 12, 2010 So would this be the Markland or the Ventureline? This is the one I had but let go. I believe yours is the Ventureline. It's completely different from the one I have for sale. The Venturelines are very nice, but I believe the Markland may have more adjustment front to back for taller or shorter riders. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.
Condor Posted January 12, 2010 #25 Posted January 12, 2010 So would this be the Markland or the Ventureline? This is the one I had but let go. Yeah, that's a Ventureline and fits the 86-93's. It should say Ventureline on black ring of the pivot side plate.
