After diligently searching for two weeks for rhubarb in the local stores, I finally found some at our Kroger store soooooo last night I made a rhubarb pie. :cool10::cool10:

Sleeperhawk said "Not too bad!" :)

If I can find rhubarb in the store before our South Carolina Meet and Eat, I will make one!:innocent-emoticon:

Congratulations Bobbie. I've never made a rhubarb pie before. Jeff likes them but he's the only one. I'll make the sweet potato pies for the SC meet as well.

Bobbie, that's my favourite pie. And I only get about one a year, in season, because I'm the only one in the house who likes them. They're good with strawberries too. Yum!

Wish it wasn't so far to go.

Tried to bring some rhubarb root back from Canada a couple of weeks ago.

When I told the customs gal that I had rhubarb root, you'd think I had just uttered a secret terrorist word. She had me pull the truck over and a few minutes later 3 customs agents swooped down on the truck.

Unfortunately, the Customs agent really didn't seem to care that the rhubarb has been in the family for over 150 years and actually started out in Illinois. Seems that you can't bring anything into the country that will propagate.

Oh well, such is life.........:crying:

I want some rhubarb pie, too!!!! My wife won't cook any of the good stuff (rhubarb pie, brats and sauerkraut, etc.), and I dearly miss my grandmas cookin'!:happy65::happy65::happy65:

Including long dead, cooked and canned beef. I don't know what all you folks are going to eat when you come to Canada next summer. Seems it's against the law for you to eat our beef and for us to eat Canadian beef in the U.S.

But Rhubarb should should still be in season about when you get here.:)

Unfortunately, rhubarb is so hard to find in the stores. I stopped by Kroger this morning to see if they had any more and alas, the three stalks I had left the other morning were gone too and no sign of rhubarb. How much trouble is it to grow, I wonder? Apparently, a lot of people just don't use it so it is not a "demand" item according to one produce manager!

But there is always apple pie to take its place!:cool10::cool10::cool10:

That sure sounds good, I havn`t had that sense my grandmother made it for me, she had a few big plants right side her back door, as kids we would just pick off a stalk and eat it... made some pretty funny faces too...
