Okay I am attempting to decide which GPS system I should buy. I have a very limited knowledge of these items, so I have a few questions that I would appreciate commits on:

1. In order to have bluetooth connection is it possible to use the existing radio on the Venture? If so is this done by the Buddy Rich cable that I have read about? If not then what must be done?

2. For XM radio on the Garmin unit can the antena be installed inside either the fairing or rear storage area?

3. What is the best mount for the bars?

Thanks

There are SO many posts here that will answer your questions. There are also a lot of different opinions on which way to go depending upon your budget and etc. Search Garmin here and you'll find a lot of info.

Many of us here like the Garmin Zumo 550. It is made for motorcycles and is weather proof. It comes with everything you need to mount it on your bike plus an additional mount for your car. There are also lower priced units that many here use. Garmin 765T is one of those. They are not water proof but many have used them here with good success. For talking on your phone via bluetooth through your headset, yes, the Buddy Rich cable is the solution and is all that you need.

I know that some folks have mounted the usual XM antenna inside the fairing and have said that it worked OK. I haven't seen any reports on doing this with the Garmin XM unit though so can't answer your question. It would not be a good solution for me though because I move it back and forth between the bike and my work car.

The mount that comes with the Zumo 550 works fine. For other models, the Ram Mounts are very popular.

I got a Garmin nuvi 255w. I just stick to the windsheild and go. It did fall off one time when I was riding :yikes: (caught it before it came unpluged, and fell to the ground.) so now I'm going to get a handelbar mount for it. :smile5:
