I'm thinking about buying a wrecked Venture to fix up and try to make a few bucks. My son can purchase bikes through Coparts so I might have bid on the one in the link I will post. I will have some cost with shipping to Iowa and auction cost. Give me some ideas on what you think would be a fair bid on this bike. If someone on this forum is bidding on the bike I won't pursue it. http://www.copart.com/c2/homeSearch.html?_eventId=getLot&execution=e1s3&lotId=17766739&returnPage=SEARCH_RESULTS

It's hard to tell from the small pictures but the damage appears minimal. It is a custom paint job so you won't be able to replace the fairing with one the same color. It will require somebody matching the existing paint or a complete new paint job. I always worry about any hidden damage. Bent forks, etc. Also, the salvage title will really affect the value when you get ready to sell it.

I don't know what I would say for a price but I personally wouldn't pay more than $2000.00 for it. That's right off the top of my head though and I'm certainly no expert in the value of salvage bikes.

Actually it does not appear to have anthing but cosmetic damage to it. I would love to know if it runs at all. Definately worth a few thousand in parts alone, but I wouldn't go much more than that...

Looks basically very nice with a lot of aftermarket safety chrome on it!

I was thinking of going around $1500 and then I figure it would cost me another 500 for auction cost and shipping unless I make the trip to go get it. I wonder what's in the box? Wish I lived closer!

Dang,

Wish I had seen your posting early this morning. I spent most of the day at the COPART yard and could have walked over and taken a look at it for you.

The yard is actually in Ham Lake, MN by the way.

I noticed it has a salvage title. Depending on where you live that can make it harder getting insurance, even if you get insurance some won't give you more then the minimum coverage. At least that's how it works here in NC. Good luck

The problem with insuring a salve title is that you can get liability, but since the bike has already been totaled most company's won't issue anything that will cover bike damage.

Wow - I've had several cars that were salvage title and had no trouble getting full coverage insurance. When my son wrecked his tracker the insurance company paid him full price and I told the agent that it was salvage and we would be okay with less. He said, "You pay full insurance so here's the check!" Black Owl - yeah - it would have been great to have someone look at it. We have a Coparts 30 miles from here. Wish the bike was closer.

Good luck. I checked with 2 or 3 major insurers when thinking about buying a salve bike, The story was aways the same. The bike had no value. They'd insure me, but not the bike since it had already been written off. Maybe it's different for a salve car?? Have you ever made a claim on a salve. I suspect you may not fair too well with the claims dept even if you'd been paying a damage premium.
