slick97spirit Posted January 4, 2010 #1 Posted January 4, 2010 I've just purchased a Nuvi 780 which has MP3 capabilities. I was just wondering where most of you guys got your MP3 audio from. I have well over 1000 songs in Itunes, but it is my understanding that those files will only work on my IPod. Is that correct. I've tried Limewire, but that stupid thing carries lots of bugs and really slows the puter down as it wants to run all the time. I'm sure there has to be a good place to get the songs I want.
FreezyRider Posted January 4, 2010 #2 Posted January 4, 2010 Ken, you can use iTunes to convert and save a copy of your music in mp3 format so you don't have to start all over. I also use a free program called Switch to convert files in wma or other formats over to mp3 (that's if you're running Windows). In linux I use ffmpeg to do conversions.... unbelievably fast and can handle almost any format. Joe
slick97spirit Posted January 4, 2010 Author #3 Posted January 4, 2010 sounds like I'm gonna have to spend some time figuring this stuff out so I can have it all loaded for the coming riding season. I bought an 8gig sd card for it the other day. That should hold a couple of thousand songs.

Better get ready to see your friendly plastic surgeon!! Joe
qdude Posted January 4, 2010 #5 Posted January 4, 2010 Well you can download about any song illegally on Limewire just be sure what you downlaod is mp3 3-7 megs. Something less than a meg is a virus probably. You can get most albums on utorrent. Again if you download music make sure your virus protection is up to date, it is almost impossible to put a virus in a true mp3, so there are fake ones with trogans. Not a big threat but can be a hassle if you get the wrong stuff. Limewire ......under tools/options/advanced unclick run at start up. Then it only runs when you want it.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted January 4, 2010 #6 Posted January 4, 2010 You can convert to mp3 as FreezyRider advised. Some of the songs may already be in mp3 format, and can be grabbed right from the itunes library with any other program, and downloaded to your player. Also, try Frostwire, its a kissin cousin of Limewire and virtually the same program. http://www.frostwire.com Windows, Linux, and Mac versions, and its not loaded down with crap..so far.
qdude Posted January 4, 2010 #7 Posted January 4, 2010 I have downloaded about every song I have ever liked, like 30 gigs now. All legally of course. The strange part is Hendrix, Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, don't do it anymore. Now the Carpenters, Grass Roots, and Mamas and Papas sound pretty good...jebus have I got old. I love listening to the original MTV hits too. I also have all the old swing and jazz from the 40's and 50's, I really enjoy that... brings back memories of my parents when they were young. I love having tunes on the bike.
Chinto Posted January 5, 2010 #8 Posted January 5, 2010 I have acquired a lot of my mp3 library from a recording software called Replay Music http://www.applian.com/replay-music/ > Basically, I use Pandora with this software and automatically record and tag everything I chose on Pandora. Standard output from Pandora is 128 but if you subscribe you can select 192 bits/sec. That is much higher than enhanced Sirius radio.
