buddy Posted January 4, 2010 #1 Posted January 4, 2010 My Son is having his Graduation from the Marines in San Diego Ca. end of this Month. We will be driving out there To see him Graduate, then bring him home before he ships out. The Marine Base is next door to the San Diego Int'l Airport off of I-5. We would like to know if anyone knows a good Motel or Hotel close by? One that is not in a bad area? We will be there for about 3-4 days. Looking forward to seeing my young Marine. He called tonight for the first time since he's been out there, sure was nice hearing from him. Looking forward to that bear hug. Thanks

Monty Posted January 4, 2010 #4 Posted January 4, 2010 I'll bet you're a Proud Papa!! Tell him thank you for being a man, and stepping up to the plate for us. Be careful on your trip. If I get a chance next month, when we are back out in Okla, I'm gonna try to stop by and see ya. Wish I could have last time.
Gamecock Posted January 4, 2010 #5 Posted January 4, 2010 Take lots of pictures! I can remember my Coast Guard boot camp graduation like it was yesterday. Other than my wedding, I don't think there is a more special day in my life. (No children as of yet). It was the only time I was in uniform with BOTH my grandfather's before one of them passed away. That one picture means the world to me. I felt like I could take on the world that day. It was awesome! Congrats to the new Marine! Ben
dingy Posted January 4, 2010 #6 Posted January 4, 2010 How did your son get sent to San Diego for boot camp ? Did he live out there? Since you are from Va., I would have thought he would be sent to Parris Island. Semper Fi Gary
Yammer Dan Posted January 4, 2010 #7 Posted January 4, 2010 Congrats Buddy. Watching those things will make you feel strange. Feel like your chest is going to burst and they put things in the air at these graduations that will burn your eyes!!:rotfl: Tell him THANKS for us.

You can fill out a "dream sheet" which shows your location preferences. That doesn't mean you'll get what you want, but it usually helps. Also, Parris Island might have had full classes at the time he was supposed to begin his training, so he went West. There are a number of reasons for it.

BoomerCPO Posted January 5, 2010 #10 Posted January 5, 2010 If I wuz you I'd Google the Holiday Inns in/near La Jolla or El Cajon Calif. Both are close enuff to the Marine Base to make fer an easy commute. Boomer.....who knows there's no such thing as a good Hotel NEAR a big airport....unless yer a gooney bird looking for a nice landing area.
