lordmorey Posted October 2, 2007 #1 Posted October 2, 2007 :confused24:I was just wondering if those who have a dyna 3000 on their rsv have used the number 4 or 5 advance setting? I just installed it this weekend on the third setting and didn't want to take it all apart again to get to the dip switches if I didn't need to. I am currently running K&N filterrs with drilled out exhaust with 125 mains and 17.5 pilots. Or is setting 4 or 5 too much advance?
Redneck Posted October 2, 2007 #2 Posted October 2, 2007 I run mine on curve 5 it will detonate if you don't run at least mid grade otherwise no problems.
pegscraper Posted October 2, 2007 #3 Posted October 2, 2007 I'm running curve 5, and I'm also burning the cat pee gas. I have been running like this for two years now.
Freebird Posted October 2, 2007 #4 Posted October 2, 2007 I'm running curve 3. I don't think I've ever tried 4 or 5.
Snarley Bill Posted October 2, 2007 #5 Posted October 2, 2007 i'm running 3 ,at 7200 rpm.still burns regular,and runs awful good.
Stoutman Posted October 2, 2007 #6 Posted October 2, 2007 i'm running 3 ,at 7200 rpm.still burns regular, and runs awful good. Ditto on that. I do run 87 or above if I get into the higher elevations. At those altitudes the regular gas is 84 octane or less dep[ending on altitude. I found on this last trip that I still need 87 octane even at higher altitude. It sure does run good on curve three.
Guest hank Posted October 2, 2007 #7 Posted October 2, 2007 Is the dyna 3000 worth the money? I'm interested in getting one. Should the carbs be rejetted?
eagleeye Posted October 2, 2007 #8 Posted October 2, 2007 I looked up what these are, but I was wondering what are the main reasons that you guys use one? Steve
pegscraper Posted October 2, 2007 #9 Posted October 2, 2007 The stock spark advance curves in this bike are very poor. More spark advance, up to the point of detonation, will give better gas mileage and more power both. The D3K also allows raising the rev limit, for those who have installed bigger cams along with heavier valve springs, like me. Carbs won't need rejetted. Spark advance has nothing to do with jetting requirements.

pegscraper Posted October 2, 2007 #11 Posted October 2, 2007 I have a dyno sheet showing 90 rear wheel hp, where the rest of you will be in the mid 70s. But the D3K is only part of it.
Redneck Posted October 2, 2007 #12 Posted October 2, 2007 The dyna 3k will give you a little more pep and should gain some fuel mileage mine didn't gain any fuel mileage but did gain some pep. I have my rev limiter set at 8k with no valve spring upgrade and have had no problems. The engine will get flat (runs out of cam) at 7k but will wind to 8k. Is it worth the cost thats really up to each individual. If you want to spend the money to get that little extra they work but don't expect a major difference. It is kinda neat to see the speedometer run out of numbers while still in third gear:Bunny:
