Hopefully no one will mind me posting this here. This is not MC related but it is something very dear to me and I would imagine any dog lover. This was a memorial dedication at Va Tech where we dedicated the memorial to all the police dogs killed in the line of duty in Va. One of the dogs I trained in 1999 is on this memorial.

Wayne, thank you for posting this. Nice to see that the dogs are getting recognized and honored for the hard work and sacrifice they gave for their cities.

OUTSTANDING Tribute to the four-footed unsung Hero's who work side by side with our LEO's.

Thank you for posting it here. Too bad this is something folks will never see on the major News Networks of this Country.

Boomer....who's putting a lid on saying anything more......God bless those who stand the Blue Line and their canine partners.:clap2: :clap2:

Wayne,

Thanks for posting. The hair on my arms stood up throughout the entire video. Thanks for your service with these incredible officers.

Thanks all. I consider myself blessed to have worked over 23 years with these animals. Even though I retired from the PD I'll stay involved on the K9 level teaching and judging certifications around the country. It's been quite a ride.

Wayne,

If possible and somewhat local, I'd love to check out a competition with you. I thought about applying to the Coast Guard K-9 Program, but knew that I wasn't ready to make a career decision with the CG. The dogs used for these program are outstanding. Along with the service animals, they're both fine examples of "Man's Best Friend".

Ben,

The next local certification for patrol dogs will be sometime around Apr to June. I believe Alexandria is hosting this time. I'll be there judging and I'll try to remember to tell you when I get the dates.

I'll put it on my calendar so I won't forget. It's something I'd love to attend!

Thanks for posting. I will have to visit the memorial when I go to Blacksburg on the Hogs 4 Hokies ride.

Also looks like my friend Jim Matarese in the video. I spent many years working with him before I retired.

Tombo,

That indeed was Jim. He's retiring in a couple weeks from USPP. Is that who you worked with?

That's him....I retired in 2002 after 27 1/2 years. I supervised the unit where Jim worked from '95 to '99. I put the suit on a couple of times to take a bite from his partner and even with the sleeve you definitely can feel it.

I always liked the demo he did with his partner hiding in the ice cream cart.

I knew he was finally retiring and will have to get to the ceremony. He is known almost as much for his cooking as his work with K-9.

Hell, we've probably met before. Jim and I have trained together many times since we met in 86. As a matter of fact I was a student/asst trainer in his 98 class. I'll be at the retirement luncheon.

My pleasure. I'm glad to see memorials such as this. It took quite a few years to make it a reality but it finally happened. There is an elder gentleman in the pics who was a handler approximately 50 years ago and his dog was shot and killed on a track. His dog is the oldest on record so far in VA where an on duty death happened.
