Guitar Players - how long does it take?

Yep, my bad. And that's why I have a Classical. My hands are so big I can't finger the strings without touching the adjacent string on a classical and an acoustic is a joke.... And that's why I can only play a few cords...but it's still fun to drag the thing out every once in a while and plunk....

 

heh... makes me wonder how folks with bigger hands/fingers can play an accoustic ... mine are small and I have trouble keeping away from the adjacent strings...but that could just be my inexperiance...

It takes practice, and good hand position. The correct hand position is with your thumb behind the neck and the tips of the fingers pressing down on the strings, not the sides of the fingers. Watch a good classical guitar player to see how its supposed to be done.

 

Sadly I don't always do this correctly. But I've learned how to cheat after many years of sloppy playing, I've learned different ways of making the same chord that minimize touching adjacent strings or open strings. Getting your finger strength up will also improve on the situation.

 

Also, ignoring mistakes, smiling, and singing loudly, as if it was supposed to sound that way helps ....

I have been taking lessons since April at a shop in Westerville Ohio

Today I played at a coffee shop Powell Ohio 1 song

That was the first time I have played in front of an audience

The first time out side of lessons and home

It was student recital I Guess you can call it that 3 hours of music

2 of use played a nice rendering of - Wild wood Flower

We were going to give Shady Grove a try but we ran out of time

 

Stomach full of butterflies I got real nervous all of of a sudden

then made 1 little mistake shook it off and kept going.

 

Crashed but i didn't burn

 

Every year I try to do something I have never done b4 I did it
