jneed53 Posted December 25, 2009 #1 Posted December 25, 2009 I read the thread on windshield cleaners, but here is my problem: I have been using an aerosol cleaner with a wax in it for 4 years. Does a great job, but now the shield has what I thought was etching, but now seems to be a buildup of some sort. Anyone know what I can use to get that stuff off without ruining the w/s? I can't hardly see through it at night when oncoming headlights hit the shield.
ctraylor Posted December 25, 2009 #2 Posted December 25, 2009 You can go to a boat dealer and they have a product that you can use to buff out the winshield. I use nothing but Lemon Pledge on mine for 3 years now and still clear.
wizard Posted December 25, 2009 #3 Posted December 25, 2009 I used Pledge for a while, but the wax buildup bothered me. I ended up using Novis cleaner to remove the buildup and now use Plexis.
Jethroish Posted December 25, 2009 #5 Posted December 25, 2009 Warm water and a soft cloth. Lay a warm wet towel over the w/s and let sit a few minutes to sofent the bugs then wipe clean. I do the same on the faring.

I do the same on the faring. Ditto with the warm water and towel but have also add Plexis or S 100 special surface cleaner, all work well for me.
Bummer Posted December 26, 2009 #8 Posted December 26, 2009 Have you tried washing it with a strong dish washing detergent? I've used a vehicle soap for a few years now because dish washing detergent tends to strip the wax off while the vehicle soap does not. It might take several tries, or even the straight concentrate, but it seems worth a try if you haven't already. Irene said that she used to use an ammonia solution on wax buildup on linoleum, but I don't know if that'd be a good idea on a windshield.
