Chinto Posted December 23, 2009 #1 Posted December 23, 2009 Has anyone tried the split mirrors? The ebay link below shows an example of what I am talking about. So far I have only found them to fit a Harley. It seems like it would add a lot of extra viewing area. Has anyone mounted a Harley fitting mirror on their RSV? What is necessary to make the conversion? These mirrors do not appear to have any Harley branding on them so it wouldn't cause any goofy questions or comments. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350270020543&_trksid=p2759.l1259 Merry Christmas to all
Eck Posted December 23, 2009 #2 Posted December 23, 2009 Harley mirrors are standard thread and the threaded hole for connecting them on the RSV is Metric. You would need a conversion piece with a male metric end to a female standard end of the same thread size the mirrors are.
Squeeze Posted December 23, 2009 #3 Posted December 23, 2009 The metrics Threads are M10x1.25 Pitch. But the Thread on the right Side has a left handed(reverse) Thread Direction.
Chinto Posted December 23, 2009 Author #4 Posted December 23, 2009 Thanks for the info Squeeze. That is what I was looking for. Apparently the link in my first post is not looking properly so I have attached a photo of the split mirrors that I am considering. Thanks.
Squeeze Posted December 23, 2009 #5 Posted December 23, 2009 The Stems look rather short. I'm not sure, but i doubt this will give you enough reach out to see anything behind you in the Mirrors.
hillrider Posted December 24, 2009 #6 Posted December 24, 2009 Any reason you couldn't get a set of Venture extensions, and install appropriate helicoil??
Chinto Posted December 24, 2009 Author #7 Posted December 24, 2009 I have seen the Harley made version which are identical to these. When they come out of the package the mirror needs to be turned 180 degrees so the the convex part of the mirror is on the outside of the stem instead of on the inside like in the photo. The dimensions given on the ebay listing are 9" long x 4.25" high with mirror face of 5" x 2". I will check the measurements on my stock mirrors to compare sizes. Thanks
Bummer Posted December 24, 2009 #8 Posted December 24, 2009 There are several adapters available. They all look a bit different so you'll want to shop around. 5/16 to 10mm. A quick Google brought up these: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/3/14/138/14906/DPITEM/Cruiser-Motorcycle-Mirrors-Drag-Specialties-Stealth-Mirror-Adapters.aspx http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/3/14/138/9904/ITEM/Kuryakyn-Yamaha-Cruiser-Mirror-Adapters.aspx http://www.hellrisercustoms.com/bikes/11/category/Handlebars (About a third of the way down the page.)
Carbon_One Posted December 24, 2009 #9 Posted December 24, 2009 Kuryakyn has mirror adapters for Yamaha. I have a set on my bike for the Magnum mirrors. Here's a link -- http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.cfm/go/Home.ProductDetail/catID/17/scID/45/IMID/810 Larry
Crash Posted December 24, 2009 #10 Posted December 24, 2009 A while ago some of you asked about the mirrors I had on my 05RSV which have LED run lights and turn signal LEDs in them. Just happened to see them on ebay again, so here's the info. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380186023257
hig4s Posted December 24, 2009 #11 Posted December 24, 2009 does this help http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.cfm/go/Home.ProductDetail/ItemID/1446
Chinto Posted December 28, 2009 Author #12 Posted December 28, 2009 Thanks for all the responses. The adapter solves the problem.
cb1313 Posted December 29, 2009 #13 Posted December 29, 2009 Harbers Cycle . com (Arkansas) sells oversize mirrows for $20.00 a pair. They list on ebay. I live 15 miles away so I just drove over and made the puchase. I noticed that when I wore my leathers I really could not use the stock mirrows but the new mirrows work great. Cb
