kenw Posted December 19, 2009 #1 Posted December 19, 2009 Freeman You're a 19 year old kid. You're critically wounded and dying in the jungle in the Ia Drang Valley. November 11, 1965. LZ X-ray , Vietnam Your infantry unit is outnumbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense, from 100 or 200 yards away, that your own Infantry Commander has ordered the MediVac helicopters to stop coming in. You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns and you know you're not getting out. Your family is half way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day. Then - over the machine gun noise - you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter. You look up to see an unarmed Huey. But .... it doesn't seem real because no Medi-Vac markings are on it. Ed Freeman is coming for you. He's not Medi-Vac so it's not his job, but he's flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire anyway. Even after the Medi-Vacs were ordered not to come. He's coming anyway. And he drops it in and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 2 or 3 of you on board. Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire to the doctors and nurses. And, he kept coming back!! 13 more times!! He took about 30 of you and your buddies out who would never have gotten out. Medal of Honor Recipient, Ed Freeman, died last Wednesday at the age of 80, in Boise , Idaho May God Rest His Soul. I bet you didn't hear about this hero'spassing, but we've sure seen a whole bunch about Tiger Woods . . . Medal of Honor Winner Ed Freeman

Bubber Posted December 19, 2009 #3 Posted December 19, 2009 No words can ever give this man the honor he deserves On the news last night the anchor man was honoring Mr Ed Freeman and his quote was " You can pray to God but you better hope that Ed Freeman is coming to get you" He came back 13 times! Do you believe that! Who among us would have the STONES to do that. GOD bless you Mr Freeman because God has already blessed us by letting us have you here on earth. I am sure he deserves his rightful place in heaven for his bravery. God bless you Mr Ed Freeman ! We can only hope to meet people like this once in our lives I salute you Sir! Steve S.

mraf Posted December 19, 2009 #7 Posted December 19, 2009 A true hero and someone to admire. Thanks for reminding. A while back there was a local man who passed away that had been a pilot of a B-17 during the war. He had completed 35 missions. My father was at D-day on a LST. They used his LST to return the wounded to England after the invasion. He never talked much about it but when he did I could tell it left an indelible mark on his life. Thank them all for their service. I second your remark oldgoat. The helicopter man for me too!
BOO Posted December 19, 2009 #8 Posted December 19, 2009 I don't mean to degrade this post but I believe Ed Freeman has been dead for couple of years.. Could be wrong... I know this kind of thing has been passed around a few times about him..... I think what it says he did is true though. I'm to lazy to go look it up...... BOO

kenw Posted December 19, 2009 Author #11 Posted December 19, 2009 I will stand corrected. Although I received the email yesterday, snopes said he died in August of 2008. The rest of the story is true! He was a true hero, so God bless Ed Freeman, and you will be remembered!
