I didn't know if I should ask all the questions here (harder to search) or just ask one at a time...anyway, I decided to ask all at once and then at the end offer a suggestion.

I have a brand new 2009 Royal Star Venture-S (11 miles on it now).

1. Like many of you, my CB antenna was mounted on the RIGHT side instead of the clutch side...Can I just SWAP the two antenna's or do they have to be reinstalled? Can they just be unscrewed and swapped?

2. Does anyone have a good WELL LIT picture of the inside of the fairing? I am especially interested in getting an image of the BACK of the cassette deck...and more specifically the AUDIO OUT in the back of the casette deck.

3. Dealer said to use premium gas...I take most on here use regular unleaded...correct?

4. Is the speedometer accurate (my VTX speedo was off by 10%)?

5. What is the CONSENSUS on tires for the Venture?

6. Does anyone have a link to a GOOD SMALL stickup light for the trunk?

7. Is there not an OEM riders backrest for the Venture? And if not, why not? I have seen the 3rd party vendors, but just curious about a YAMAHA backrest.

8. Has anyone used the High Beam Garage Openers...and how the heck do you connect it? Their instructions are terrible.

And finally a suggestion. I know we have a FAQ...but how about a FAQ for NEWBIES. Simple easy questions in one FAQ that most NEW GUYS (and Ladies) ask everytime a new bike is bought...

Thanks to you all so far for helping me as much as you have. I feel like a brand new rider with this bike even though I have been riding since 1979.

I also admit I have some buyers remorse. I'm sure it's because I just haven't been able to ride (bike has been in the garage since the day I brought it home). So maybe once I can start riding, things will get a little better.

It helps if this is added to your profile so it is obvious. User CP.. Edit Your Details .. Custom User Title.

A couple answers from an RSTD rider

3. The Yamaha specs for our engine says regular gas. Thats what most people use.

re: a FAQ. There is a Tech section for the 2nd Gen and a general Tech section and a Tech library. Those are pretty much equivalent to a FAQ

2. Does anyone have a good WELL LIT picture of the inside of the fairing? I am especially interested in getting an image of the BACK of the cassette deck...and more specifically the AUDIO OUT in the back of the casette deck.

See Attached -- I've got a few more with the main radio amp out of the way, but it will take some searching for those... I'll put 'em in when I find them. The 'aux' plug is near the bundle of large round black connectors shown above the right (brake side) passing lamp on my bike.

Doing a search in the 2nd gen tech section for 'fairing removal' or something like that - I believe there are some good pictures in there. I suspect you can also find pictures of that area if you search for 'gauge install' or something like that as well.

3. Dealer said to use premium gas...I take most on here use regular unleaded...correct?

THE MANUAL SAYS TO USE REGULAR although some will argue midgrade or premium works better for them -and this is a can of worms that you could probably find numerous threads on but the manufacture says to use regular. I don't know why the delaer would have told you otherwise other than lack of knowledge of this particular bike. A compression of 10:1 is within the range of which plain old regular (87 octane at sea level) is for.

4. Is the speedometer accurate (my VTX speedo was off by 10%)?

No. I beleive the general consensus is the indicated speed is higher than the actual speed (checked by GPS) by anywhere from 5-15% depending on the bike.

5. What is the CONSENSUS on tires for the Venture?

Dulop E3s and Avon Venom-x (I believe are the most popular on here).

I'll answer a few of these. See IN TEXT annotations

Just in case you didn't see it before, on the tool bar up top of the page, 3rd item from the right hand side of yoru screen (near the top) is 'search'. When you are under the 'forum' option you have the word search for the forum (minimum of 4 letters per word) OR you can use the 'google search' tool within the VR site. Both of those can be extreemly helpful. Lots of times trying different phrasing, spellings, or words for the items you are looking for can be helpful as well.

Hope that helps. :happy34:

I'm sure others will jump in too :)

Thank you Dingy...I have fixed it now.

I have a brand new 2009 Royal Star Venture-S (11 miles on it now).

Congratulations. Here are my answers to the ones I can help with.

1. Like many of you, my CB antenna was mounted on the RIGHT side instead of the clutch side...Can I just SWAP the two antenna's or do they have to be reinstalled? Can they just be unscrewed and swapped?

Yes. Leave the bases attached and just unscrew the folders with antennas and swap 'em. While it's extremely unlikely the bottom portions are swapped around too, you can check the left (clutch) side. The wire should go directly into a black plastic box under the trunk. That's where the CB lives.

I've always used Regular.

4. Is the speedometer accurate (my VTX speedo was off by 10%)?

Nope. Around 7 to 8 percent high.

5. What is the CONSENSUS on tires for the Venture?

I like the Venoms. Not quite a consensus, but as close as I can come by myself. :)

6. Does anyone have a link to a GOOD SMALL stickup light for the trunk?

Nope, but I have a small flashlight I keep in the pouch in the trunk.

7. Is there not an OEM riders backrest for the Venture? And if not, why not? I have seen the 3rd party vendors, but just curious about a YAMAHA backrest.

Nope. They just didn't make one. I got the DiamondR and love it. Others have the Utopia and love it just as much.

Well, you could always put one together, you've got a good start going here. I'll bet it'd earn you a medal up under your name.

It probably comes as no surprise that the beginning of winter is a tough time to buy a new bike, emotionally speaking. On the other hand it gives you plenty of time to tinker. You might want to go ahead and pull the rear wheel and grease the pins. Odds are if you don't do it now you'll do it in the spring after riding a thousand miles or so. They never have enough grease from the factory. Honda makes a 60% moly grease. If the bike shop doesn't have it check the car store. Not cheap but well worth the bucks, and goes a long way. Check out the Second Gen Tech Area for instructions for that and a lot of other stuff.

Wally, i don't know if it makes you feel any better, but i have not put my new tire (which is now on the rim & an E3) back on the scooter. i was gun-ho this past monday, but with rain & the kids and the list goes on, i am not in such a big hurry as i wouldn't get very far anyway. maybe this weekend.

Riding time for a lot of riders is cut down with the winter, so we are all there with you.

all dressed up and nowhere to go.

Trunk light -

Get 'em at Wal-Mart. I put Velcro on the bottom and on the mounting point in the trunk. That way I can pull it off and use it if I need it somewhere else.

TIRES - There will not be a consensus...ever. :whistling: :hihi:

Well. I'd tell you that I am currently creating a FAQ focused specifically on the bike, but you already know that. I know because you have posted to that thread. So I guess I don't understand the point of your suggestion?

I know most use regular unleaded, but I have checked the milege with both reg. and premium, and on mine and I checked this on 2 different ventures.

My 04 drops 3 to 4 MPG with reg, chrck it yourself, run 1000 miles with reg, and then 1000 miles with prem. Make sure you write all of your fill up and milege down and the figure the difference.

And here at the shell prem is 22 cents a gallon more than reg, thats only a $1.10 per tank.

Brain fart.

Yes, I remember posting to it. I apologize for the oversight...if there is anything in here you can put in that thread that would be great and then this one can be shut down.

You've done a very nice job on it.
