t_hole Posted December 3, 2009 #1 Posted December 3, 2009 An amazing ride report from a 19yo kid who crossed the country on a 76 CB550 Cafe. It takes a while, but it pretty much sums up what the root of riding a motorcycle is all about. Aimhigh Posted December 3, 2009 #3 Posted December 3, 2009 I had this bike back in 76...rode it from Scott AFB IL to Sheppard AFB TX...when I got to Texas it felt like I was sitting on a razor blade! Remarkable trip these two guys made...good on 'em.
AKRefugee Posted December 3, 2009 #5 Posted December 3, 2009 Wow. The trip we all dreamed about when we got our first "big bike" hey guys?
KarlS Posted December 3, 2009 #6 Posted December 3, 2009 (edited) That is one amazing kid. Great reading and great pictures. When reading the story hard to believe he's only 19 until you read something only a kid would do, or see his skate board strapped on the bike. Kid's got guts for sure and did it on a 76 CB550. WOW. a1bummer Posted December 3, 2009 #9 Posted December 3, 2009 (edited) 19yo kid If your 19 years old, your not a kid! Sweet story though. What more can you ask for than to be able to get out and experience life? Edited December 3, 2009 by a1bummer
Snaggletooth Posted December 3, 2009 #11 Posted December 3, 2009 What a story! My biggest adventure at his age was a trip from Omaha to Denver and back on a CB450. I thought that was tough trip. I feel like such a wuss now. Back under my rock.
jlh3rd Posted December 3, 2009 #12 Posted December 3, 2009 1973...indianapolis to amarillo to shreveport,la.......on my 71 cb450,with extended forks,high rise bars, and a sissy bar...and i thought i was tough...back under my rock also...
loehring Posted December 3, 2009 #13 Posted December 3, 2009 Oh to be young again. I remember to this day, the ride I took to CA from Atlanta the year before I got married. It was on an '84 Wing. I rode solo for most of it but it was cool meeting other riders and pairing up for portions along the way. My fiance flew out to San Diego and rode with my to San Francisco then flew back. What an awesome memory. I would love to have the time to just take off again. Maybe that will be my final retirement gift to myself. I have to say though that I will do it on the RSV and be pitching a tent. My son is 16 and will be riding himself in a couple years. Maybe it will be the 2 of us. Wow!!! Now you've got me thinking.
Patrick46 Posted December 3, 2009 #14 Posted December 3, 2009 It's a truely awesome feeling riding next to your own son, Loehring. My son bought and 'remodeled'(?) his first bike, a v-45 Magna, at 15 years old. Rode that for about a year, then at 17, bought a pair of V-65 Sabres. 1 runner, and 1 parts bike. Once again he 'remodeled' it to his taste (looked like it waz straight outta the Road Warrior movie). At 17, he rode out with my wife and I to Bonneville Speed Week ('08). He graduated this last spring, and just after he turned 19, bought himself a beautiful R-6 Yamaha...that he worked hard to earn for himself. He's a wonderful young man, that has alot of personality, a great sence of humor, and has alotta self respect. Oh, and he's one hell of a good rider too! Here he is, ready to hit the road on his Sabre... http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v374/210/114/1329663307/n1329663307_30136222_2081.jpg

Thanks for posting this... it was a great read ... the kid really has a flair for describing many feelings I've had while out on the road by myself.
