dingy Posted December 1, 2009 #1 Posted December 1, 2009 From information I have seen in other threads, the 1983 TCI is a unique version. This seems to be due to the vacuum port placement above the throttle plate on the carbs, in combination with a unique vacuum sensor. Question is, what are the thoughts on using a later model TCI, such as an 86-89 version coupled with a vacuum sensor change. I have a sensor that came off of an 88. Also drilling one carb body and installing vacuum port below throttle plate. Plugging existing port. Reason I am asking is I am in need of a replacement TCI and 83's are about as scarce as chickens teeth. I have carbs off of the bike, so that would facilitate adding port. What would this do to HP of bike. Gary
Venturous Randy Posted December 2, 2009 #2 Posted December 2, 2009 Gary, you may be on to something. That don't sound like anything you can not undo, so I say go for it since you already have the parts. Let us know how it turned out. RandyA

It should not affect h/p what so ever. Dick
Dano Posted December 2, 2009 #4 Posted December 2, 2009 The sensor plugs into the YICS port on #2 carb intake boot. No modifications to the carb needs to be made other than plugging the old port. Make sure the line has the resistor installed and you should be good to go.
bongobobny Posted December 2, 2009 #5 Posted December 2, 2009 Actually, from watching Fleabay the '83 TCI does come up quite often and many times goes a lot cheaper than the others. Keep us posted on the results...

Is the resistor in the line what is shown in the attached PDF, item # 11 ? Gary

Is this correct connector from carb to Boost sensor? Gary
Squeeze Posted December 4, 2009 #8 Posted December 4, 2009 Is this correct connector from carb to Boost sensor? Gary Yes it is. There should be a small directional Arrow on the Restrictor. This Arrow point towards the Pressure Sensor. If nobody messed with the Setup in the Pic, usually the shorter Hose goes onto the Manifold Port.

Keep us posted on the results... Most fleabay 83 TCI's are junk. I have several that I bought before going to the Ingitech.
