Guest Nevada Max Posted December 1, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 1, 2009 Howdy After being overseas (you do not want to know) I am back to my Royal Star and have been offered a set of Khrome werks with 2000 miles . I have the Harley RK muffs except the bracketts but my friend wants $100 for the Khromes and claims I can remove them for long road trips quite easily. I need loud pipes in the city as several times I've had to dodge cell phone users. Are these Khromes worth it and can they be easily removed to put back on the OEM Good to be back in the arms of Yamaha owners. I rode a HD Fat Boy over seas and what a treat to be back in the Yamaha machine Thanks in advance Max
Jerry W Posted December 1, 2009 Share #2 Posted December 1, 2009 Khrome Werks are quality pipes, in my opinion. To go back to stock pipes, remove saddle bags (4 bolts on each) loosen clamps (1 clamp on each pipe), then there is 1 bolt holding each pipe on. Pull pipes off bike and go back in reverse order. Doesn't take long. Also, gives you a chance to inspect rear tire etc. I found a 4" crack in the sidewall of my rear tire not long ago that I would not have seen with the bags on. Freebird Posted December 1, 2009 Share #3 Posted December 1, 2009 I used to have the Khromewerks but finally got tired of noise and went back to stock. If they are in good shape, that is a bargain on them. They are much louder than the stock Road King mufflers. They can be repacked if they get TOO loud our you can remove all the packing if you want them louder. As for how hard they hard to install, they use the same mounts as the stock mufflers. I would say it's about a 30-45 minute job to swap them. I think that the Khromewerks are some of the best in regards to quality.
petekadish Posted December 2, 2009 Share #4 Posted December 2, 2009 I had Khromewerks 4x4s on my '96 Royal and they were reasonable. I wouldn't say that they were particular attention-getters though. If they were loud, I probably wouldn't have liked them as much. They had a respectable sound. Better than stock, but not loud. The difficulty these days, is finding 4x4 replacement pipes for the Royal. Last time I looked (a couple of years ago), no one was making them anymore. So, if you plan on holding on to your bike for a while, and you think that there is any possibility that you might want to change-out your pipes, I suggest buying them (if they are in good shape), because you might not be able to find another set. Be Safe! Pete.

Guest Nevada Max Posted December 2, 2009 Share #7 Posted December 2, 2009 Stebel air horn I forgot to mention I ride solo and a very cool crusing machine the RSTD so I don't have to be concern about a look or passenger comfort. But I will absolutely look into a Air Horn after I try these Khromes to keep the distracted city kids focused on the road
footsie Posted December 2, 2009 Share #8 Posted December 2, 2009 I don't know about the loud muffler thing, I was ridding a friends chopper the other day, and a lady came over on me, and its got Jessie James F--- You pipes on it, the output is pointed directly at the left side car window when you are beside them. They are ear splitting loud, and she never heard them, had the windows up on a navagator. AND yes she was on the cell phone, I can not understand why it seems that when women get in a car they want to talk on the phone. I guess some men are bad to but it all seems to be a woman on the cell phone totally oblivious to the world around her, that runs me in the median. Third time this year.
