GlennTuc Posted November 30, 2009 #1 Posted November 30, 2009 Haven't heard anyone talk about the Tom Tom Rider 2. Does anyone have one? What are the Pros and Cons. Would I be better off with a Nuvi and a sandwich bag? Thanks, Glenn
atlm Posted November 30, 2009 #2 Posted November 30, 2009 When I was researching GPS units, the 2 biggest gripes I read about for the Tom Tom are that the screen is not readable in sunlight and a lot of folks have had reliability problems with the electrical connections on the mount.
slick97spirit Posted November 30, 2009 #3 Posted November 30, 2009 I run the Tom Tom rider 2 and it's o.k. The biggest problem I have with it is that it cannot be connected to the bikes intercom system like some of the Garmins can. The screen is difficult to see in direct sunlight also. Other than that I haven't really had any issues with it.
BMW Posted November 30, 2009 #4 Posted November 30, 2009 I had one and returned it. Yes the screen isn't very bright in the sunlight. If your planning on using the bluetooth with your phone make sure your phone is compatible, I tried 2 different phones with no luck. Called tomtom and was told to try a different phone. There is an adapter out there to hook it up to the bikes intercom system but thats another $100 or so.I'm still using my old Garmin
GlennTuc Posted December 12, 2009 Author #5 Posted December 12, 2009 I bought the Tom Tom Rider 2 because its water resistant, bluetooth, comes with Ram mount, etc.; however, I'm starting to have buyers remorse. Everything works fine except the bluetooth to my iPhone. It recognizes my phone and picks it up right away, but when I get about 30 seconds into a conversation the sound drops out. It shows it still has the phone connected and the person I'm talking to can hear me but I cannot hear them. For 400 bucks, I expect better performance. I'm going to give it one more chance. If it does it again, its going back! Glenn
hig4s Posted December 12, 2009 #6 Posted December 12, 2009 (edited) For $599, with free shipping you can get a Zumo 550 on Ebay. I'm actually surprised they are still going for that much with the new 660 out. I actually got mine for $450 back when Best Buy was closing them out. Actually here is a link to the a 660 for $614 with free shipping. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Garmin-zumo-660-Motorcycle-Navigator-010-00727-00_W0QQitemZ350262635726QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGPS_Devices?hash=item518d47acce Edited December 14, 2009 by hig4s
