Color01 Posted November 26, 2009 #1 Posted November 26, 2009 I received from a Member here, an original antenna for my Midnight venture. Because the first owner installed a short rubber antenna . The antenna that I received has only a short piece of antenna cable left...what is the best way to have this fixed. (See picture of the antenna) Or is there a way that I can take the mount of the antenna apart. To install the cable that is on my bike. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a372/color01joy/P1020077.jpg
Color01 Posted November 26, 2009 Author #3 Posted November 26, 2009 I tried to unscrew it . I used now a little wd40 ...I hope that will help.
gscbertrand Posted November 26, 2009 #4 Posted November 26, 2009 If you have a bench vise put the end in it a turn from the top. Get some deep creep a sea foam product I found it to be the best rust eater around these parts.
Owen Posted November 26, 2009 #5 Posted November 26, 2009 The crimp you see on the metal just above the coax is where the connection to the shield is located. I would split that collar with a drimmel tool and remove it. That should allow you to get to the center conductor. Plus you have to connect the new one any ways. Just my two cents...
camos Posted November 26, 2009 #6 Posted November 26, 2009 Looks to me the cable is crimped to the antenna and may not be replaceable. There are antenna couplers that can be soldered then assembled with a wrench but that one does not look like it is the right type. Seems to be a dumb way to manufacture an antenna and hopefully I'm wrong.
GaryZ Posted November 26, 2009 #7 Posted November 26, 2009 Take it to a CB shop (usually found near truck stops) and let them put a new cable on
BOO Posted November 26, 2009 #8 Posted November 26, 2009 Hope you didn't pay much for that antenna. Man if he had just left a couple of inches of cable you could get something on it. I guess if it's the antenna for the am/fm you might hob nob something onto it and maybe not get to much interference. If you have a friend that's into ham radio or like someone said a cb shop maybe something could be adapted to the antenna but it sure looks like it was molded that way. I don't think I would start cutting on the fitting because there may be a fitting that could be crimped onto what you have. I wish I had a good answer for you but I don't. Good Luck, BOO I received from a Member here, an original antenna for my Midnight venture. Because the first owner installed a short rubber antenna . Kirby Posted November 26, 2009 #9 Posted November 26, 2009 Ok here's my 2 cents worth. It looks like the cable itself is crimped to keep it from pulling out, but the wire connection themselves have to be accessible to connect to the antenna. Maybe V7Goose can tell you something, I dunno. If there are more than one or two wires they have to connected individually. Let us know what you find out. I'm interested.:confused24::confused24:
Color01 Posted November 26, 2009 Author #10 Posted November 26, 2009 I found out that you can’t replace the cable…because the cable is crimped in the bottom of the base that you can screw out. But I found out that the old 1200 goldwings use almost the antenna base.and I had an old base laying around. So I replace the inside of the base from the goldwing and installed everything …and it works great. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a372/color01joy/P1020077.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a372/color01joy/P1020079.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a372/color01joy/P1020078.jpg
