Mike G in SC Posted November 25, 2009 #1 Posted November 25, 2009 The below link is to NASA and will help you find sightings this week on the Shuttle and the Int. Space Station (ISS). The dates with longer duration and higher elevation are really awesome to watch. Just saw on the news a minute ago that the two have split, so you may see them chasing across the sky. Sorry if you have clouds. Check it out, find your state/city. Times are usually right on, so bring the family out for a few minutes. I did that once during a small party and when the Shuttle showed,, they all looked at me and said, "Your were serious,,,,!" I told them "I got connections." http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/cities/skywatch.cgi?country=United+States Mike G in SC
Two Tone White Posted November 25, 2009 #3 Posted November 25, 2009 Just saw it - pretty cool. Looked like two bright white stars - one chasing the other at the same pace and equidistant, appeared to move about 6-10x as fast as the airliners that were also up tonight but there were no blinking red signal lights like on planes. Thanks for the tip.
barend Posted November 26, 2009 #4 Posted November 26, 2009 NASA is trying to hide it, clouds in the way:confused24:
Sling Posted November 27, 2009 #5 Posted November 27, 2009 Thanks for the heads up.. We just came in from seeing the Space Station and the Shuttle pass overhead.. Wish we had a telescope. They were moving very quickly!
slick97spirit Posted November 27, 2009 #6 Posted November 27, 2009 We caught it as it passed over SE Missouri tonite. That was really a cool thing to watch. We weren't sure what to look for at first, but once you see it, there was no mistaking it. Awesome.
DarkMeister Posted November 27, 2009 #7 Posted November 27, 2009 So THAT's what I saw tonight! The first one (in the lead) seemed a lot brighter/bigger than the chaser one. Wow!! If I got my directions right they were racing west to east, or some such.
raceman62race Posted November 27, 2009 #8 Posted November 27, 2009 We went down the road to a wide open field and really dark. It came by at exactly the precise time as posted on the internet site. Amazing!!!
slick97spirit Posted November 27, 2009 #9 Posted November 27, 2009 We went down the road to a wide open field and really dark. It came by at exactly the precise time as posted on the internet site. Amazing!!! Actually, it was about a minute and half late when it came over us. We were looking at these little stars thinking they were moving & then here these two come over the horizon and there was no problem telling that's what they were. Really one of the coolest things I've seen in a long time. Just think if your mom or dad were up there. Wouldn't it be awesome to go out and watch them fly over.
KB2RWW Posted November 27, 2009 #10 Posted November 27, 2009 it's good to see other people taking an interest in what's above our heads. I have several programs that will let you track it and other satellites and things, it lets you plane in advanced when their will be a pass over you're house. I use them to make contacts with them over HAMRADIO. when i first got my licence i once worked the MIR space station before they got rid of it for the new space station. now I'm trying to work the new space station. the space shuttle and space station both have ham-radio on board as a back up for the main communication. this last space walk they did was to install an antenna for one of the ham radios on board.
spear Posted November 27, 2009 #11 Posted November 27, 2009 Here's another good site from where you can watch who or what is floating around out there. http://www.heavens-above.com
Mike G in SC Posted November 27, 2009 Author #12 Posted November 27, 2009 (edited) My weather cleared in time to see them both last night. I have watched them for years but this is the first time I've see them chase each other across the sky. Ken (Slick97), yeah, looking up in the night sky, it's easy to remember family past,, but fortunately, my 88 yr old Mom G (visiting for Thanksgiving) was able to be at my side to see them last night. She lives on the SC coast and can actually see them rise shortly after takeoff. She was reminded of the first moon walk in 69 and looking up that night knowing she would remember it for always. And Spear, thanks for that link. I walk early in the mornings and a few times a month see "some" satellite crossing the sky. Edit: Oh,,,, if the NASA list shows more days,,,, but you know the Shuttle has landed,,,, ah, no need to look up for it. Fooled me again. Mike G in SC Edited November 28, 2009 by Mike G in SC
