Yammer Dan Posted November 24, 2009 #2 Posted November 24, 2009 Barnette has deal for complete clutch for $119.00 There are some others.
rod Posted November 24, 2009 #3 Posted November 24, 2009 If you are on a budget. If your clutch is slipping under load "face" the plates and get the old vmax clutch spring. total cost less than $40 including gaskets. Rod
Squidley Posted November 24, 2009 #4 Posted November 24, 2009 http://www.pcwracing.net/catalog.htm Talk with John Gayne, he's the owner, tell him you want the clutch upgrade for your Venture and he will send you all you need for less than $100. I have installed atleast a dozen of these in both 1st and 2nd gens, including 3 of my Ventures. They work great and you can forget about it. And no you dont have to replace friction discs, I have NEVER seen any of the disc I have pulled out ever out of tolerance. Clean the steels up and reinstall it...your done.

My clutch started slipping in 4th and 5th after it hit 50k. Anytime I hit the gas hard in 4th or 5th you could hear the engine REV up but movement lagged behing badly. this was a sign the clutch plates were slipping. I Talked with John Gayne and got the new spring, full friction plate and gasket and Ponch came over and helped me change it out. Took us about 40 minutes to make the change. As Squidley and others have mentioned no need to change the friction plates. At the most you may consider sanding the steel plates if they seem slick. I had zero porblems since adding the new spring and plate. The clutch pull will be tighter after the change but you won't slip anymore. Total cost for my change was about $80. You could probably get by with just a new spring if you get the new heavier spring from John at Barnett. just my jb
N3FOL Posted November 29, 2009 #6 Posted November 29, 2009 I'd like to read more about replacing the clutch on my 2nd Gen. It is not time for replacement yet, but I'd like to educate myself. Pics are very helpful. What is the link?
Bummer Posted November 29, 2009 #7 Posted November 29, 2009 [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10518]Here's a write up[/ame] with photos done by Tartan Terror. It's quite good, with pics and all. Just bear in mind that the dots that are mentioned may wind up anywhere. That part rotates. Just match up the dots, where ever they may be, and you'll be fine. It's an easy job.
