last night or early this morning i should say. a young man was driking at the local bar about a half a block. from my place. he left the bar against his friends whishes to take a cab. took off on his harley . must have hit a speed of 60mph. he side swiped 6 cars takeing off the drivers mirrors on all of them. i was the last one he hit. he suffered. a broken shoulder. faceal lacerations. not to mention. a dui. reckless driving.. total damages to the cars are over 3 grand. his bike was impounded. he has no valid motorcycle endorsement. and no insurance on the bike. so please think before you drink and get on your bike. it aint worth it. to think you can make it home

One would think, that in this day and age... with all the education about it...with all the "watchful eyes", reminders, etc, etc ... that people would "get it" ... but they aren't. The guy is lucky that's all that he ended up with...

One of his "friends" OR the bartender should have gotten his keys from him, even if it means a fight. That would be a lot less to go through than what this guy is now gonna get thrown at him.

This might get me in trouble with some of you, but...

When we go for dinner on our w/e rides, I will drink a beer with my meal. For me, ONE beer doesn't even give me a 'buzz'. I just LOVE the taste of a beer with my w/e meals.

I would NEVER think of getting on a bike with even a little bit of a buzz.

Drunk driving should be allowed.

read tonights news paper. he has a $30,000 bond on him. ouch.

and has a class 4 felony charge on him 2nd dui in 3 years. that can bring a sentence of 3 years max. want to bet the young man tries to sue the bar for letting him leave in that condition.

and the odds are in his favor that he will win if he sues, after all it's not his fault. :bang head:

And if the bar owner did take his keys...he has a lawsuit for infringing on the drunks rights.

There is no way of stopping a lawyer from making his money!

Drinking and riding is how a good friend of mine ended up in a coma for 2 months last April and would have been dead had it not been for the fact that a Doctor and Nurse happened to be right there on the scene. He is up and about today although still living in a group home for brain injured people, but is improving all the time.

Same here Craig. I don't see any problem there. Especially with a meal.

I spent a big part of Friday afternoon sitting in a court room with about 100 other people. If it had not been for the alcohol related charges, there would not have been 20 people in there. It was scary how many kids they had in there for underage drinking. And, it was obvious there was absolutely no respect for the court. They came in with their t-shirts and their pants halfway down their butts and about as good of a response I heard from them was "yeah". Most of the older alcohol related charges were for multiple DUI and driving without license or insurance. Scary world.

i don't fault you for your decision to ride after drinking ONE beer. like you i love the taste of beer but i won't even drink one when i am on the bike - i just choose to err on the side of safety....i'm past 60 yrs. and i know that i 'think' my reflexs are as good as they used to be...but the real truth is they are not and for that reason i just won't chance hurting my wife, myself or anyone else...but as i already stated, i don't fault you at all.

You are likely right but I hope he doesn't sue. Today...people accused are not accountable for their wrong decisions or actions, they must find someone else to blame. Maybe after the 3rd DUI something may happen, but hopefully he doesn't kill someone? :confused24:
