Kirby Posted November 23, 2009 #3 Posted November 23, 2009 IMHO this is a quick fix, although it can be permanent. Just be sure, as V7Goose has stated on several occassions, that all other problems have been addressed or you may find out later that there was something else causing the problem all along!!! Do a lot of checking out the website and your bike!! Just my worth. One thing I found out from taking mine back to the dealer to stop this was that the Y-connections in the exhaust, leak from the factory!! One side of the Y is crimped(letting it leak) while the other side isn't. It's kinda like the cassette player.., should have been fixed(upgraded) along time ago.
V7Goose Posted November 24, 2009 #4 Posted November 24, 2009 Well said Kirby, but I'll just emphasize one little thing - IMHO it is not that something else may be wrong with the bike, it is an absolute fact that something else IS wrong with any stock 2nd gen that has loud popping or afterfires on deceleration. I have shown over and over again that these bikes will absolutely not do this if they are in tune and not damaged in some way that affects either the combustion or the exhaust. The choice each owner must make is a simple one - either find and fix the problem or just do this to ignore it! All the technical details are well documented in other threads for anyone who actually wants to know about it, so I won't go into them again here. Ride safe! Goose
Monsta Posted November 24, 2009 #5 Posted November 24, 2009 Mine popped on decel even though the previous owner had removed the AIS. Syncho'ing my carbs eliminated the popping.
