FROG MAN Posted November 22, 2009 #1 Posted November 22, 2009 OK guys yesterday at some point I lost both rear brake lights on my 04 silverado. I drove the last 300 miles with my daughter tailing me tight with her Subaru just to make it here.I believe I have a wiring problem. The brake fuse is fine, tail light bulbs are fine, and the third brake light that sets high above the rear glass works OK. This tells me the brake light switch is OK.The ground to both rear tail lights is probably OK as the rear turn signals, park lights etc are OK. I'm thinking maybe the master feed line comes into some connection plugs under the frame behind rear bumper. I'll check it out today when it warms up here. I got my volt meter with me just no wiring diagram. Those rear electrical plugs may be corroded.Nothing like plenty to do on vacation.
Owen Posted November 22, 2009 #2 Posted November 22, 2009 A lot of vehicles use 2 switches on the brake peddle for the brake lights. One for the regular lamps and one for the 'third' brake light. Just a thought...
midnightventure Posted November 22, 2009 #4 Posted November 22, 2009 If I can get this to attach maybe it will help.I guessed at the year. This is for a 2004 2 wheel drive. Those systems are usually kind of generic.
footsie Posted November 23, 2009 #6 Posted November 23, 2009 On my 97 the brown wire broke at the clamp on the frame just before the plug at the rear. had a hard time finding it, the covering was intact. Gregg

flb_78 Posted November 24, 2009 #10 Posted November 24, 2009 If you have the tow package, the wiring adapter that tees in could be bad.
FROG MAN Posted November 24, 2009 Author #11 Posted November 24, 2009 Got brake lights fixed. Checked brake pedal switch and removed and reseated both bulbs in tail light. Everything OK now???? Not sure exactly what fixed it.
