I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH A REP. FROM YAMAHA USA FROM CALIFORNIA,

AND THE YOUNG LADY TELLS ME THAT THERE IS NO KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE REAR SHOCK FAILING ON THE 2ND GEN VENTURE OR THE TOUR DELUXE???

WHAT I AM REQUSTING FROM ANY MEMBER OR NON MEMBER HERE, IS A LIST OF VIN NUMBERS OF MACHINES THAT HAVE HAD THE REAR SHOCK FAIL, AND IF IT WAS COVERED BY YAMAHA OR IF IT WAS OUT OF POCKET?

I DON'T HAVE TO HAVE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION, JUST SERIAL NUMBERS OF THE FAILED BIKE.

POST IT HERE OR SEND IT DIRECT TO MY E-MAIL royalstarventure03@yahoo.com

thanks for your help, i would love to choke the dist. rep with a list of known failures and even better, if they were covered under warranty.

mine has been replaced 3 times, and needs a 4th and my warranty ends at the end of this year and they don't want to help.

any seat replacements and vin numbers would also be welcome

thanks, mike/eusa1

I don't know if the shock has ever been replaced on my '99, 'cause I haven't had it but a couple of months. It now has only 18,000 miles and is starting to make a groaning noise when it is very cold. Is this a sign mine is failing?

mine groans like an old man getting out of a chair........ or maybe thats me making that noise:confused24:

I've got a groaner too but I keep putting off taking it in. I did lube every bolt on the shock mounting when I did my last driveline lube and it was quiet for months. I just noticed it groaning again a month or two ago.

i hope you get some numbers. we have owned our 04 RSV for 3 months and luckily we have no issues. as a side note, i have ordered a hand pump and aired up the rear shock to make a much more comfortable ride for my wife when we are 2 up.

Good Luck

Say, Big Boy, thanks for the idea. my rear tire is off while waiting for the new one to come in. I might as well clean what i can and lube up the rear shock mounting points. i will put that on my list.

mine have all made a groan noise prior to leaking oil and then giving the pogo stick ride.

this is my third venture and i have replaced several shocks on all of them, without any problems from mother yamaha. i guess it's just another product of the current state of economy and cut backs.

thanks to all that have mailed to me, and all that will.

i will report after my talk with the rep.

Just bought my '99 last June, replaced shock after 60k miles. So definetly way out of warranty.

Got lucky, before it had failed, found a newer (still used) one for $125 on e-bay. It has been working great (so far). I think it was from a '06 or '07 if I remember right.

FYI - Groaning is not neccessarily a precurser to failure. It just groans until the shock lube gets onto the seal. There is a fix for this - injecting ATF into the Shrader valve or something. Do a search in the tech forum.

Mine has groaned when cold for 4 or 5 years and 50,000+ miles (70,000 miles on it currently). Still works great though (fingers crossed).

Mike, thanks for doing this. I know there has been reports of many shock failures. Putting together the data will help the Yama rep see the light - hopefully.

Mike,

If I didn't indicate it mine was replaced under warrenty.

Service took one look at it and said "I order you a new one and let you know when it arrives" couple two. three days later everything was complete at no cost.

I don't have my old 2005 venture to get the serial number off of, but the rear shock was replaced under warranty at the dealer in Decatur Alabama.

If Yamaha would only request "FROM THEIR DEALERS" as to how many shocks THEY replaced under warranty, then Yamaha WOULD have what they need. It's called "Cost of Quality"

My 2 cents:

I'm willing to bet Yamaha already knows the answer and they are playing you for a fool............:whistling:

heck yes, yamaha has the numbers.... this is not a quest to get info for them, rather it's a request for information to prove them wrong, and to let them know that we have the numbers and will be available for the next venture owner that has trouble getting coverage...........the only fool here is the guy that thought yamaha did'nt have the numbers:doh::whistling:

thanks again for all the numbers folks, and i don't care what country they are from!! i would like to have them all, and when i am done making the list, i will give it to freebird for anyone that may need future help.

Hi Mike as you know my shock failed because you sold me the replacement shock that Yamaha would not cover. When I get home tonight I'll send you my vin #.
