craigatcsi Posted November 18, 2009 #1 Posted November 18, 2009 I finally got my MC Cruiser magazine, (long story), and was anxious to read their 'Tourers Shootout' article. They had the HD Electra Glide Ultra Edition, Kaw Voyager, Venture & the Victory Vision for the comparisons. I was sad to see that the only thing that really impressed them about the Venture was the engine! Granted it is an old model, but I was pretty disappointed in their opinion of it. - (I wonder if I am just being defensive because I like it so much.) They rated the Victory as the highest, but I just couldn't get past the styling and the Air Cooled engine. I looked at the Voyager when it first arrived at the dealer, but wasn't too impressed with it for some reason. I really thought the Venture would score higher. Have any of you read the article? What did you think of it? craigr
99silver Posted November 18, 2009 #2 Posted November 18, 2009 The Venture is OLD news, but GOOD news IMHO.
Gray Ghost Posted November 18, 2009 #3 Posted November 18, 2009 I glanced at the article. I knew the reviewer was biased against it when he talked about how the shape of the fairing meant the rider would get very wet. That has never been a problem for me unless it is just about monsoon force rain.
footsie Posted November 18, 2009 #4 Posted November 18, 2009 Well all I know is that Bobby(rides electra glide), gets a lot wetter than I do. Johnny ( 05 Wing) is drier but he has the tall windshield. Gregg
Wanderer Posted November 18, 2009 #5 Posted November 18, 2009 You could write your own shoot-out article and certainly would have a different out come. They're interesting reads, but I never decide on what I want to ride based on articles. While all the "big" tourers have there good and bad points, there is only one I'm interested in.

What did you think of it? craigr I thought very little of it...In fact I think so little of that mag-rag since the Bartell hooligan took over that I am not going to renew my subscription until they dump his sorry ass...... Makes little sense to have touring cruisers reviewed by devoted rice rocket riders who express their total disdain for cruisers before they even start. This magazine has become worthless....It has little substance and is now filled with adds for idiotic male enhancement products - I guess Billy knows his following. He is turning the magazine into a typical Harley rag with the same old scrap-iron being peddled at exorbitant prices in wild flame colors - sorry, but that's old stuff...real old !
craigatcsi Posted November 18, 2009 Author #7 Posted November 18, 2009 Though I do have a subscription, til October of next year, I may not renew. I also don't care for Billy's writing, though I can't put my finger on why, he just rubs me wrong I guess. The mag certainly has seemed to turned to a HD slant in the last year, but that may be because the HD is so darn popular, with sooo many models. They also seem to REALLY like the Victory machines, but after riding one a month or so ago, I can see why. I was pretty impressed with the short ride I took. I wonder how much their opinions are influenced by the Manufacturers. Do they have to worry about 'calling their kids ugly'? I mean the bikes are donated to the mag for reviews & such. What I DO like about the mag is all of the pics of bikes, write-ups on trips and the tech section. Zimmerman is great. - (Maybe I will renew.) I have looked at a couple of touring mags, but I didn't see anything that really stood out. And, touring bikes typically don't look as 'cool' as cruisers, which is why I like the 2nd Gen Venture's style. - More comfortable & looks cool. I hope the 3rd Gen Venture isn't styled like the Goldwing or BMW. craigr
