Beau-Kat Posted November 20, 2009 #27 Posted November 20, 2009 Rusty, I'm off work those days so if you want to meet for a bite before you head back give me a call. Sent you a PM
Sideoftheroad Posted November 21, 2009 Author #28 Posted November 21, 2009 Replied to your pm. Carmel (the town you go through before Westfield) has gone roundabout crazy so there is some construction in the Carmel area on 431 (Keystone Ave) around 116th St. It isn't too bad last time I was on it. About another mile or 2 after 116th st, Keystone merges with US31 (Meridian). Just head straight up US31. Dealership is a block North from the US31/SR32 intersection. It will be on your left. Called Westfield Yamaha when I got home and they said they are getting another Venture. Almost sounded like they were getting it today. Don't have any details on it yet (year, mileage, etc....) Will see what we can do to all get together for lunch or something. I do have to pick my daughter up from school around that time and my wife has a work related meeting she has to attend. So gotta play things by ear but hope to meet you. BTW did you mention you got the information from this forum? Just curious. Jerry.
MikesBike Posted November 21, 2009 #29 Posted November 21, 2009 Not sure of your route but if you're coming I-40 West to I-75 North, just remember I-40 is closed at the NC/TN border in the gorge by a rock slide. Be careful and good luck on your trip. Mike
Dano Posted November 21, 2009 #30 Posted November 21, 2009 Not sure of your route but if you're coming I-40 West to I-75 North, just remember I-40 is closed at the NC/TN border in the gorge by a rock slide. Be careful and good luck on your trip. Mike Thats some good and timely info right there, don't care where you're from. Thanks Mike!
Sideoftheroad Posted November 22, 2009 Author #31 Posted November 22, 2009 They said they had some people calling on the '88 from TX and California as well but saw the add online cycle trader. Well got another tidbit on what they have coming up. Not much, but it is an '87. He said the '88 was so popular they are going to get yet another one besides the '87 they have coming up.

Be careful and good luck on your trip. Mike Thanks for the great info Mike! I guess I gotta find a way around it. Rusty (Beau-Kat)
MikesBike Posted November 22, 2009 #33 Posted November 22, 2009 The most fun and maybe the shortest is via Highway 25 through the mountains to Newport TN where you can get back on to I-40 West. Best way is up I-26 from Asheville to Johnson City TN then South on I-81 to I-40 West.
Beau-Kat Posted November 23, 2009 #34 Posted November 23, 2009 (edited) Had a daughter who graduated from Mars Hill College a few years back. Made many motorcycle trips up that way. Camped at Hot Springs one time, so I've been that way to Newport. Seemed like a very long way to Newport. This time, I'll be in a 3/4 ton 4wd Suburban pulling a 6x12 enclosed trailer. I guess that will take the "fun" value outa going that way. Sure seems a good bit shorter than going up 81 and then back down. I may just try 25 anyway. Leaving here about 11pm tonight. ADDED NOTE. OOOH! Just looked at the map. I guess it would be safer to go up to Johnson City and then back down. Staying on the interstate, especially traveling at night in this dreary weather, would probably be worth the extra miles. May even save time with the higher speeds. Thanks again. Sideoftheroad Posted November 24, 2009 Author #36 Posted November 24, 2009 Saw the '87 today too. Gold is not my color let alone 2 tone gold. But wasn't too bad. Much better than what I thought. They got some work to do on it 1st before they put it up for sale.
yamadawg Posted November 24, 2009 #37 Posted November 24, 2009 IMPRESSIVE! Great looking '88. It is great to see what one looks like without all of the "beauty marks" like I put on mine. Congratulations on landing a great bike!
Beau-Kat Posted November 24, 2009 #38 Posted November 24, 2009 (edited) Made it home this morning about 7. No problems on the 1600 mile trip. Thanks to all of the members who posted all of the great info about the rockslide on I-40, various road construction, etc. Leaving Indiana, rode the bike about 75 miles. Put it into the trailer before dark. My first ride on a 1st gen. Impressive. Many thanks to Jerry, Bob, and Dan for creating time in their schedules to meet up and do lunch with us. Got some good 1st gen technical info from Dan too. Oh well, it's 3pm, I'm done napping, and I gotta go take the bike outa the trailer. Thanks for the posts and emails that helped me out. If anyone's ever near Charleston, SC, I'm willing to meet/help when and where I can. Rusty Edited November 24, 2009 by Beau-Kat
Dano Posted November 24, 2009 #39 Posted November 24, 2009 Great finally meeting you too, Jerry. Glad I was able to get away for awhile. Great lookin' 1st gens, good to see them on the road instead of being parted out. Gettin kinda concerned, thought Rusty would have posted by now letting us know he's back home. Anybody heard?
Beau-Kat Posted November 24, 2009 #40 Posted November 24, 2009 Hey Dan. I'm home. Just got up. Gotta figure out if my coffe intake/gas burnt ratio was in balance. I know I used up a lot of both.
