Sideoftheroad Posted November 15, 2009 #1 Posted November 15, 2009 I will have to double check, not sure if that mileage is correct. I could have sworn I heard 50k, but could be wrong. Super clean bike though. I know the dealer has a couple questions since they aren't as familiar w/ the 1st gens. I will see if I can get them and post them for him. I know 1 of them has to do w/ the box that is on the front right side down by the brake caliper. It was something along the lines of if there is a way to make an adjustment. I can't completely tell you what the question is since I don't know what that box is for. Looks like they have the displacement wrong too. 1st Gen
dynodon Posted November 15, 2009 #4 Posted November 15, 2009 Yep, Gen 1's had anti-dive in the forks.
wes0778 Posted November 15, 2009 #5 Posted November 15, 2009 Bet if someone wanted a good deal on a NEW 2007 Venture they show to have one. oh and 2-2008s:yikes:
yamadawg Posted November 15, 2009 #6 Posted November 15, 2009 Wow. I've got one of those '88's in my garage. Except mine has more safety chrome, the Big Bike Parts light on the trunk, passenger armrests, progressive springs in recently rebuilt forks, superbrace, new gaskets and hoses, new Avon Venom X's, and the SUPER HANDY LePac bag between the handlebars. That bag alone is worth it's weight in gold. It has been carefully test-ridden through the 68K mile break-in period. Heck, I'd let them have mine, even with the bag, for $4,499... Plus, I can tell them what the little box thingie is on the forks. I don't think the electric anti-dive on the MkII's was adjustable like the manual units on the MkI's were. They had a screw in the bottom of the forks that adjusted them. When I put the Progressive springs in the forks they made the anti-dive un-necessary anyway. They can do the same with this bike and not worry with the AD system. For $12 they can join this group and learn how to work on Yamaha's...
Mariner Fan Posted November 15, 2009 #7 Posted November 15, 2009 I saw that bike. Hard to believe it's that old because it looks new. Yea, it has only 15,000 miles.
Sideoftheroad Posted November 16, 2009 Author #8 Posted November 16, 2009 (edited) So what is Anti-Dive and what does it do? What is MKII and MKI? Is the Anti-Dive adjustable and how? Thanks Edited November 16, 2009 by Sideoftheroad
Mariner Fan Posted November 16, 2009 #9 Posted November 16, 2009 So what is Anti-Dive and what does it do? What is MKII and MKI? Is the Anti-Dive adjustable and how? Thanks You can see the difference between the MkI and MkII on the Venture History tab.
Skid Posted November 16, 2009 #10 Posted November 16, 2009 I know where a very sharp 86 First Gen with several upgrades completed and a almost new set of E2's mounted, some extra parts including a brand new rear E3 tires, that is FOR SALE in West Virginia for less than that....
yamadawg Posted November 16, 2009 #11 Posted November 16, 2009 The anti-dive actually controls/channels the flow of fluid in the forks based on the load or pressure placed on them thus preventing the motorcycle from nosediving upon braking. The anti-dive on the '83 thru '85 models (MkI models, 1198cc engine) was a manual system and adjustable by turning a screw in the bottom of the forks as I recall. The models from '86 to '93, the (MkII models, 1,294 engine) were electronic and not adjustable. That is my simple layman's explanation, I am sure that others can expand on or explain this better. The Progressive Springs that many (myself included) replace the original fork springs with perform this well enough that the anti-dive plays much less of a part in this function.

Mariner Fan Posted November 16, 2009 #13 Posted November 16, 2009 I know it's hard to tell by looking at a picture but I've seen this bike in person and have never seen a first gen so clean and unmarked. The closest one might me Leadwolf's old ride but this one is even better. What a shame that the owner didn't use the bike like it's intended but whoever buys it will be pretty happy.
Sideoftheroad Posted November 16, 2009 Author #14 Posted November 16, 2009 If anyone interested you better hurry. Just talked to the dealer again. Apparently someone from Georgia is flying up and someone else (sounded more local) is talking about trading his 650. He was also asking about E1 diagnostics, but thinks they have it figured out. Heck if I had the $$$ would have considered a 2nd scoot myself. Maybe connect them both, put a seat in the middle so I could ride them at the same time. :-)
6pak Posted November 16, 2009 #15 Posted November 16, 2009 Nice looking scoot. Priced kinda high tho. Paid 3200 for min last april with 31000 on it. And mine is just as shiny. I do like the white though but I'll bet it's a bear to keep clean.
utadventure Posted November 17, 2009 #16 Posted November 17, 2009 Gees-- I have my '88 for sale for $2200.00, 36K and only got 3 calls on it. Granted the weather is turning cold but if they can get that price, I'll sell them mine. Dave
Sideoftheroad Posted November 17, 2009 Author #17 Posted November 17, 2009 kbb shows retail for $3260. I do know that dealers will add their cost into what they do to get it prepped for sale. If anything needs fixed, mechanic costs, etc... Not sure if anything what they put into it. Wouldn't think they put in over 1k in it. anyway, can use kbb as a purchase point. This is where I lucked out when I bought my '99. Dealer hadn't touched it before I bought it.
Beau-Kat Posted November 18, 2009 #18 Posted November 18, 2009 Just made a deal on that Ivory and Cream '88 VR in Indiana today. I had been saving for a while for a 2007 FJR1300. Well, just spent 1/2 of my long desired FJR1300 funds on a kitchen redo. So, that dream has fizzled. Going up Monday or Tuesday with the enclosed trailer to get the '88 . My 2003 Harley 883R is for sale now. Orange and Black. Great shape. 8300 miles. First $3,800 gets it. Rusty
RandyR Posted November 18, 2009 #19 Posted November 18, 2009 congrats on getting this good looking 1st Gen. We'll want to see it at one of the M&E soon.
Mariner Fan Posted November 20, 2009 #21 Posted November 20, 2009 Rusty, I'm off work those days so if you want to meet for a bite before you head back give me a call.
Sideoftheroad Posted November 20, 2009 Author #22 Posted November 20, 2009 Rusty, Let us know when you come pick up. Hopefully I can can meet you. I am off work on Monday
Beau-Kat Posted November 20, 2009 #23 Posted November 20, 2009 (edited) Rusty, Let us know when you come pick up. Hopefully I can can meet you. I am off work on Monday Thanks Mariner Fan and Sideoftheroad! I'll harvest your phone numbers and stick them in my cell. My cell number is in my profile. I can't do internet access to check this forum from my phone, so contact will be just via cell. Barring any travel troubles, I hope to get to the dealer in Westfield on Monday between 11am and 2pm. I'm 750 miles away and will leave here (here is just west of Charleston, SC) Sunday night about 11pm. I have a friend coming with me, so he and I can swap off driving, thus cutting out rest periods. Although I'm no stranger to quick long distance rides overnight, I don't know much about this particular bike or when/how recently it has been serviced. 750 miles is a little much for me to depend on it the first time I sit on it. I have a 3/4 ton suburban to pull my trailer. So this won't be considered a "green" trip. I would rather ride the RSV up there two up, but these days aren't like the old days. You get a lot of funny looks when folks see two manly men on one bike. Ha! Anyway, we hope to get up there with plenty of daylight for the start of the return trip. We will swap off riding the bike and driving the burb until dark. Then, we'll stick in the trailer. Any crazy hiway construction going on around Indy these days? Edited November 20, 2009 by Beau-Kat
Dano Posted November 20, 2009 #24 Posted November 20, 2009 If you come up 75 to 74 into Indy and then 465N up around to 431N (Keystone Ave.), that'll take you right up to Westfield Yamaha. I'll be working just south of 465 & Keystone Monday, but don't know if I can get away to say hey. Here's my cell anyway 317-370-0139. Might be able to get away for lunch if you're ready when you get off the freeway. I know there's no construction on 74 & 465, but 431N has some but it shouldn't impede your trip any. Dan

You are da Man! Got yer number down. That's the route I plan to take up there. I have GPS, but local eyes are always better for great info.
