TEW47 Posted November 12, 2009 #1 Posted November 12, 2009 A friend of mine has a VTX1800, the oil dipstick broke off and fell into the engine. So far he has not been able to get it out. I have a strong magnet , hoping he can slide it up to the oil filler hole. If not will he have to split the cases? Does not have the money to take it to the shop. Any suggestions? tew47
rod Posted November 12, 2009 #2 Posted November 12, 2009 A good light and hemostats would be my first try. If it is ferris metal the magnet could work. You should be able to get it by pulling the side cover at the worse case. Good luck Rod
bdyohecomcast.net Posted November 12, 2009 #3 Posted November 12, 2009 i would go to the vtxoa web site a lot of good guys just like here ask them i'm sure it has happeed to one of them. Bill
ridgway1 Posted November 13, 2009 #4 Posted November 13, 2009 Hi Tew47, I had a 2002 vtx 1800r And if my memory serves me right the dipstick is black plastic. Its been awhile but id almost bet on it. Chris
spingley Posted November 13, 2009 #5 Posted November 13, 2009 I had an 03 1300VTX and the dipstick was steel, I would think a magnet would work fine, some of those magnets on end of a telescoping rods are amazingly strong.
Kirby Posted November 13, 2009 #6 Posted November 13, 2009 Be careful with those telescoping magnets. Some of them will pull off if you get it hung on something in there. But yea, it's worth a try.
