bkuhr Posted November 8, 2009 #1 Posted November 8, 2009 what weight of oil should I use for '83 xvz12, book calls for 20W-40, but can't find it except yamalube
flb_78 Posted November 8, 2009 #2 Posted November 8, 2009 I personally use Rotella T 15w40. Others use 10w40, still others use 20w50. In my opinion, today's oil far surpass the oils of the early 80's and as long as the oil is not "energy conserving", it will be fine.
bongobobny Posted November 9, 2009 #3 Posted November 9, 2009 Yah!! Delo 15W40 works really great as well!!
91nwl Posted November 9, 2009 #4 Posted November 9, 2009 You can use 20W-40, 10W-40 or 20W-50. Just stay away from 10W-30 as it is all energy conserving. Yamalube is good.
bobcat Posted November 9, 2009 #5 Posted November 9, 2009 I've used Castrol GTX 20/50 for the last 20 years in both my motorcycles. I've never had a oil related issue.. That being said, you'll get as many different oil suggestions as members that add to this post...There have been several of these oil and tire posts over the years and you'll be correct to come away thinking there are several good brands of just about anything involving motorcycles....(EG..some like Coke, some like Pepsi) myself, I prefer blondes.
