OldBear Posted November 3, 2009 #1 Posted November 3, 2009 Hey folks, I've been thinking (yeah, dangerous stuff that:scratchchin:) that what with Christmas coming up and us having a pretty good size organization, it might be nice for us to do "something" for the kids for Christmas. What I was thinking of was some sort of "group" contribution to perhaps the Marine Corps "Toys for Tots", or St. Judes. I would envision us sending individual checks made out to whatever charity we select to a single collection point, then one of our guys making a formal presentation to the charity on behalf of VentureRider. If we'd all kick in a lousy $10 bucks we'd raise more than $20,000 and THAT would make a real difference for a bunch of kids (And it would be some Great Publicity for VentureRider). Anyway, just a thought of something that might be fun for us to do this Christmas season. Whadda ya think?
BIG TOM Posted November 3, 2009 #2 Posted November 3, 2009 I'm sure Lewis (dragonrider) wouldn't mind recieving some donations for St. Judes....I know I wouldn't miss $10.00...in fact I'M gonna do just that !!!! Gonna make me feel good tonight....
Jrichard Posted November 3, 2009 #3 Posted November 3, 2009 Those are great thoughts, however, I always like to remember the great men and women who are away from their families at these times due to serving our country in the military. I would be interested in joining Venture Rider Forces to say a big Thank You for all that they do. The children are important, but, we all owe our troops. Patricia:2cents:
DragonRider Posted November 3, 2009 #4 Posted November 3, 2009 Very good idea, whatever charity you donate to, it will be appreciated by all............

Bigfoot Posted November 3, 2009 #6 Posted November 3, 2009 How about www.woundedwarriorproject.org. There is an online donation form or here is the address if this is the one we'll use. I was recently at a fund raiser for this group and there are some good people involved. Wounded Warrior Project P.O. Box 758517 Topeka, KS 66675-8517 Fax: (904) 296-7347
davecb Posted November 3, 2009 #7 Posted November 3, 2009 On Friday, Nov 6th, The Wounded Warriors will be arriving in Huntsville. The Patriot Guard Riders will be there to escort and welcome them as always. I am taking the day off from work to participate in this great honor to our soldiers....
Squidley Posted November 3, 2009 #8 Posted November 3, 2009 We did just that here at VR.org with the military about 3 years ago. Lonna and I took donations and we went and bought all sorts of stuff and sent it overseas. It was very cool and I wouldn't mind donating to something like that again. Please let me say that I am NOT volunteering myself to run it again, but would give monies towards something like it

OldBear Posted November 3, 2009 Author #10 Posted November 3, 2009 I've got no problem with us doing ANYTHING for the troops. The Senior group that the wife and I run at our little church has been sending care packages to deployed soldiers since 2004. Based on what I've seen and heard (son-3 tours Iraq, best friend just returned from Iraq, comments from others that have "been there") the guys in Iraq currently have a pretty decent supply train supporting 'em, fixed bases, etc. For them we just send "homemade goodies" (cookies, candy, etc.), while for the guys in Afganistan who are still "out there", we utilize a full "care package" with all sorts of things to make daily life more comfortable. I will support ANY of the ideas mentioned earlier...Just think it would be nice for us to do "something" this holiday season.
mini-muffin Posted November 3, 2009 #11 Posted November 3, 2009 Hey I'm in on this one too. Glad you brought up the idea Patricia and thanks Bigfoot for the idea of which to do. Hopefully everyone will want to join in on this. Margaret

1sttenor Posted November 3, 2009 #14 Posted November 3, 2009 How about doing a poll to determine the benefactor?
ronhenry4 Posted November 4, 2009 #15 Posted November 4, 2009 As a soldier who is deploying again in the next 12 months (for the 3rd and last time) i remember the first time i recieved one of those packages and can not tell you how much they mean to every person who gets one. So i am onboard lets pick .. Ron
