I went to the Texas Loan Star Rally this saturday. What a sideshow! I loved it!

One of the things I saw where these HD saddle bag guard pouches and bottle holders.

I have no room for a cup holder on the handlebars and I have been looking for an answer...

I knew they would be too long to fit the RSV but the price was right and there was no sign of 'HD' on it anywhere. :happy34:

I decided to us my degree in Fred-N-Barny engineering to make it fit.

I picked up some snaps from the local hardware and using my Fred-N-Barny tools, I managed to come up with a nice addition to the bike.

The top portion of the bag snapped right in place and fit fine. Note that these bags come in 'left or right side' versions. This is a 'right' side bag.

I simply folded the lower tab over so it fit snugly and using a hollow punch I made the holes for the snaps.

After affixing the snaps I trimmed the tab for a better appearance.

Here you can also see where I removed 2 original snaps.

I am pleased with the results.

Check out this part number, 22340G, at jcwhitney.com. They are currently $51 each side. They are made by River Road (good quality), and they fit my 2000 RSV perfectly.

I checked that link. It's description says ten inch height, that looks like the correct length. The one I picked up fits an HD and it was 12". Thus the Fred-N-Barny fix...:bang head:

I had talked to Troy Savoie about building some of these for my bike...he is a member here. He talked like he could build them fairly cheaper that that other website listed with a pouch for a water bottle and another pouch for sunglasses or a paperback book.

He disappeared for a while...then got back with me and he had been in the hospital with gall bladder surgery...said it was gonna take him a week or so to get back on his feet and back to work...

I have emailed him a few times after that...and had no reply...concerned about him...

he still has some stuff on ebay...fairing bras and saddle bag covers...but no water bottle bags

I do not know what is going on..he is a very talented individual...and could make some money with the folks on the site for a water bottle bag.

I have the one from Ace High Leathers... for 2 yrs. now. First... outstanding build quality. It's the best leather I have ever seen. Fits perfectly, snaps on and off in seconds. I had nanci put red trim on the top so it matched the bike paint. I would suggest you get the left side mount. I did not think about this on our last trip, but getting to the water with the left hand is easier than taking you hand off the throttle and reaching back. Also, passengers find these irritating to the back of their legs and feet. I pull mine off when 2 up.

Disclaimer: I do the web site for AceHighLeathers.com as a favor to Nanci. We bought their RSV. She is one talented leather worker. I just designed a mud flap, she built it... it's pretty nice looking. I'll post photos when I get the final version installed.

I agree about it bothering the passenger. I have a holder on my handlebars that is very easy to get to. I have one of the original Hopnel holders that attaches to the rear crash bars. Eileen said that it was always in her way so I removed it long ago. It looks like a nice idea but just didn't work out for us. It was actually given to me by Bob Dakin who removed it because Becky didn't like it there either.

If anyone is interested in doing the crash guard bottle holder conversion that Owen shows on this thread, I have a left and right set that look just like the one Owen converted to fit his RSV. I had bought these at a bike show this past February thinking they would fit. I have decided not to put them on. They have never been used so they are in brand new condition. I paid $45.00 for the pair at the show. I would sell this set for the same $45 plus shipping. Just to be clear they will definitely need Owen's conversion to make them fit on the crash bar. If you interested just PM.

:fingers crossed:
